A beginner can earn nothing from blogging. It takes that long time and that much amount of hard work and skills to start earning from blogging. It depends on various factors such as your niche, monetization, knowledge, search volume, good quality content, etc...

see most of the people say you write what you passionate about... I'd say this is the crap shit advice ever.
find a less known niche and start...doesn't matter you've passionate about the niche or note if you want to earn good money.
make sure to research properly

Long answer:
Some bloggers make a shit ton of money while most make nothing at all.
Since you asked this question, can I safely assume that you want to start blogging yourself?
Something that works for someone else doesn't mean it will work for you too. Most people fail at blogging because they are blogging only for money. A blog is just a publishing tool and blogging is a way of online marketing.
Market what? You may ask.
i) If you have a product or service, you can market that using a blog.
ii) Or, if you're an interesting person and an amazing story teller you can market yourself and your work.
Other than these, you won't make much just from blogging.
So if you don't have any of that, what else you can do instead of blogging?
You can make a niche site and publish content there to monetize with ads and affiliate links.
This requires a few skills like writing, SEO, SMM, basic knowledge of HTML & CSS.
Thankfully, there are a lot of resources and help available here at BHW on all of these.
The best way to learn is to start doing.
