Well, I don't have enough traffic on my site, it's like 500-1000 visits per day, but what I am looking for is speed. Currently, I am using Hostgator Hosting, majority traffic is from India so server is also in India.
The thing is whenever I ask someone so-called expert webmaster, which hosting is best for fastest response time or speed, I get mix answers, VPS and Cloud. Well, I've tried both but you won't believe I couldn't find much difference in hostgator Shared or hostgator VPS, and even digital ocean cloud wasn't the way I expected, there's no huge difference as of my experience.
I haven't tried Wordpress hosting, do you think I should consider that one as well and speaking about VPS or Cloud, (I know the basic fundamental how they work) I don't want to know that just simple answer, which one should I buy considering speed is something that I want. And hey, I can't afford a dedicated server or managed VPS, not even AWS or Google.

In layman's term, the only difference between VPS and cloud is that cloud is easily scalable and also has other services. You can use DigitalOcean or Linode; both seem to be available in your region.

You can host your website in any VPS but be sure to use CDN. Afaik, cloudflare has a lot of servers in different parts of India.

WordPress works best with OpenLiteSpeed Webserver. If you have VPS try running on OLS instead of Apache and NGINX web servers.
OLS never heard about that is that available on WP hosting too?

I am guessing there might be a minimal difference in speed?

Or you can try cloudways if you are less techie. They have plug-in to migrate Wordpress easily .

As mentioned above openlitespeed works really great with wordpress websites.
You can go with digital ocean (unmanged vps) they have one click installation for cyberpanel with openlitespeed.
Cloudways is a great alternative for getting managed services.

I have tried Digital Ocean, really wasn't able to see much difference.

Is your wordpress page load speed optimized?
Do you use CDN?
I have used VPS from DO and VULTR & performance improvement has always been great compared to shared hosting.

VPS is the way to go and it will be always much better than shared hosting,
however, you must keep in mind that getting VPS only won't make your website that fast and won't really be enough,

get a VPS in India with a 1Gbps port if you can (you can make a test speed in the terminal, google it),
install OLS directly or using some panel (I prefer/use aapanel myself) along with PHP 7.3++

You'll have to optimise your website caching as well, as server-side caching and speed will not reflect any results if your website is not optimised in the 1st place, make sure to install some caching plugin (try flyingpress or wp rocket, others were much slower for me) and make sure to extend cache expiration to 1 week at least

Along with that, make sure to compress and resize all the pictures on your website (directly or using some plugin) as they usually have the biggest size and that will reduce your page sizes and make it lighter for your users
convert most of the pictures to webp as well as it will help to reduce their sizes most of the time (especially for png) and delete any unuseful picture shown in any page, just keep the required ones

let me know how it goes :)

in shared hosting you can get long downtime and it cant handle high real time visitors.
I'm using Digital ocean though cloudways and no downtime in last 12 months for my sites.

Cloudways / Vultr (high frequency)

I would advise going for cloud. I've tried shared hosting and WordPress other than cloud hosting, but so far cloud outperformed the two.
Although haven't tried VPS yet.

+1 for flyingpress

You guys use Cloudways?

I was looking this week at DigitalOcean and Vultr for a couple of new sites but was also looking at this from RackNerd ( It's not an affiliate link, so don't get moist ) https://my.racknerd.com/index.php?rp=%2Fstore%2Fspecial-promos&

Great thanks for sharing this wonderful post and amazing information about this topic

You have hostgater? My condolences to you :D
Wordpress works super fast with Kinsta, i got about 700ms.
But for website below 10k views per day, basically no point but to use cheapest hosting

You should check your website and install WP Rocket, Imagify to improve your performance. Use a light theme like GeneratePress.

If you’re site is not properly optimized where you host doesn’t matter. You will get the same results only.

VPS+Runcloud(Nginx only server)+Any good caching plugin+CF. This setup is working for me to get all the greens at pagespeed and speed less than 2-3 sec.

Yes, some of my sites on cloudways. Am using Vultr High Frequency. Am slowly migrating over from my previous VPS with InMotion.

Cloudways support so far has been very good and fast . Less waiting time compressed to my existing host .
