I Think I'm Done With Writing

Find local websites that have garbage content and pitch those business owners on better content and how important it is, since they are local and usually don't know much about freelancing they pay your local rates. I've gotten a few clients that way even though I was actually looking for SEO clients and only mentioned that they need better content.

I would buy articles if they didn’t suck ass.

I hate writing, but always have good content ideas.

I’ve paid $50 for 500 words and the quality was the same as a $5 article.

I feel a bit jaded and skeptical because of that.

The buyers are there though.

I genuinely feel your pain.

I live in the UK so naturally English is my language.

Over the last year i tested various writing services and was less than impressed with the quality.

So, i started improving my own writing skills. I can churn out a pretty well written SEO optimized thousand word count piece in around an hour.

I can also do this in various niches, some harder to write for than others.

I use my skill for my own blogs but recently i have started to apply for freelance opportunities on Upwork.

It amazes me how cheap people want writers, but the quality is equal to the price.

I ask a minimum of £35 dollars for 1k words.

For this people are getting a well written piece of content which contains keywords, LSI keywords, headings and subheadings bold and italics where they should be. Easy to read and well presented.

Most people you order off even in here the content is less than optimal when it comes to SEO.

how much the price of clone amazon you think is fair ?
Depends on the requirement. You can't just put a number on such a project which involves 1000s of features without knowing what is to be done. Also, this will need a team of developers rather than a single one. It is complex, and has to be scalable if somebody needed a real clone.

two thoughts - 1.
Try targeting Sales and Marketing folks.

They're often bloody useless. :p

In my early days, I served a Pirate King and he was an engineer and english not so much. Despite actually being English.

He'd dictate or hand his stuff to me and I'd re-draft it and make with the Words.

He liked the fact that I'd make him sound sort of SMRT (lol).

2.
Smart writing, effective writing, is an art, and a hard art at that.

The more advanced the topic, the smaller the pool.

Taking someones 300 word cloud and turning it into a statement, sales pitch or 1 sentence, is worth way more than $1 and can command way more than $1.

Fire your clients and pitch to those who get it :)

Third thought - practical one.

GFX and Gfc designers are in the same boat. if you live in an area, try writing a pitch along the lines of.

'You studied Art and your clients give you a mess of mushy words, let me fix that for you with clear, precise copywriting at excellent rates'

The marketplace for writing is two tiered. There's one with the typical Fivverr and Upwork crowd where its a race to the bottom of the barrel. Bad pay, bad clients who expect the world and know little about writing.

The other one is filled with clients who understand the value of well written piece content and they compensate accordingly. The best way to attain these clients is not through upwork.

I'm in many writers groups on FB and regularly see 1000 word niche pieces being sold for $250+.

I will say this, there are people that are cheap and willing to pay for cheap articles, and there are people looking for quality (original and rewrites) out there like myself. Currently I'm shopping around and paying for a few articles from different writes at $9-$12 per 500 words, and hoping to get decent results. Would I pay more? If the quality is readable, informative, original, researched, and SEO optimized, then definitely!

The problem is not the price. It's about how to prove to your customers that your work is worthing higher charge. Build a site and put your high-quality samples there. You can make money on writing.

Those are incredibly low prices

Woops, meant per 500 words. Edited. Yeah that's why I mentioned shopping around and see what I get at those prices. If it's enough for my purpose (blog), then great, if not, well then I'll keep looking and pay to get the results I'm looking for.

Damn! You almost wrote my story word-to-word! That was me about a year and a half back.

Luckily, I have been able to get through the haze and come out on the other side with better paying clients.

At the time of this writing, my queue is full for several weeks with clients paying me anywhere from $2 to $3 for 100 words. It's not a hell lot. But, I am inching in the right direction.

I would suggest that you hang on for some more months! Better days/clients might be round the corner. I have experienced it!

I just want to rant a little bit. I see so many people talk about how they make a sustainable living from writing and how they make $100 per article but yet, none of them can ever give me any details on how they obtained their first real gig or attracted high-quality clients.

Nearly every client I meet and everyone who contacts me is usually from Asia and wants me to work miracles for $1 per 100 words. I've stopped enjoying writing, I'm pulling my hair out and raging every time I hear the notification sound for a new email. I have people that speak broken English that demand "high quality" and from my experience, the cheapest clients have the highest demands.

The most recent person to contacted me wanted me to write their content, upload it to their blog, format it, upload pictures, provide sources and do a top 10 list in every single article. All for $20 an article. I'm always at the mercy of low-paying clients. When you tell them that you charge a higher rate, they simply say bye and go somewhere else. They will go through writer after writer and they always come back to you, begging for you to do their content for yet again, $1 per 100 words. It's an endless cycle and sometimes, you're just so desperate that you end up taking $1 gigs.

It's miserable, it's not sustainable and I'm giving up on it altogether. Not only is $1 per 100 words a criminal rate for anyone who can type coherent English, but most payment processors also charge about 4%, so a 10,000 gig or $100, would really only net you $96. It's absolutely pathetic.

I have tried my luck on sites like Upwork but literally, no one responds to their gigs after they post them. I have sent hundreds of proposals over months. I've only received one email out of ALL of the proposals I've sent. It was an email to tell me that someone else was selected for the job. Instead, every job is spammed with comments like this: "Hello I can has the job in done quick".

If you're someone who's earning a living off of writing, I have no idea how you're doing it but I'm happy for you. I spent months trying to build up a portfolio and reach out to higher paying clients, even at a mere $3 per 100 words, I couldn't find anyone. Everyone wants $1 per 100 words and if they have "bulk work", they want you to go even cheaper. It's disgusting and I'm just done with this business altogether. So, for anyone who enjoys doing $1 content; don't worry, that's one less writer to worry about applying for the same gig. I hope you make it but I clearly didn't, after years of full-time effort put into it.

I genuinely don't get these clients. They hop from freelancer to freelance and believe me, I've been on the hiring side. I've hired people for $1 per 100 words. You get nothing but incoherent garbage and stuff literally copied from Wikipedia. It takes a ton of applicants to find one that actually attempts to even write the piece. What are these clients honestly even hoping to accomplish with this low rate content? No one's going to read it and no writer is going to put in the time required to write a compelling article.

That's my rant for the night. I'm out.

i think you should try academic research writing. They are usually willing to pay more and do pay more than IM writing jobs generally

I always write my own content. Its extremely time consuming and annoying to write many articles per day, but I can write a 500 words article about my topic in 15-20 minutes.

Ordered a few services on here for article writing, but quality was always bad. You get what you pay for. Only good for Tier 2.

Rule Reminder; He cannot sell or offer a service on here, so you should not be asking him to do so
If you write as well as you did in the op, for your clients, please hit me up because i cant find a writer who can actually writer something that i cant spin in two seconds.

You gotta learn how to say NO to people who don't fall into your ideal clientele.

I completely understand what you mean. Maybe you could continue as you were and hire someone to communicate with your clients instead of you? And set some serious boundaries. You're not going to work for peanuts and you're not going to offer unlimited revisions. Don't allow clients to bully you. And if you get more downtime than you're used to having, you can use it to work on personal projects or even write article proposals for online publications that pay guest writers. However, this method is obviously playing the long game. Hopefully, you have some cash in your savings account to tide you over until you start getting more quality clients who post orders more regularly.
