You're not entirely wrong. FB groups, sub reddits, discord servers, telegram channels, all these are easier to use.
But you can still succeed if people find your forum useful. I've seen a few forums in my country take off in the last 2-3 years.

forums are literally printing money right now if you know what you're doing... everyone thinks they're dead because they're looking at ancient phpbb boards from 2005. the play is hyper-specific micro forums... like not "tech forum" but "ford f150 2018-2023 owners forum" level specific... these communities are so tight that when someone recommends a product, 20 people buy it same day... plus zero seo competition because everyone's chasing ai content farms

discord killed general forums but created massive opportunity for niche community sites... if you can build a place where 500 obsessed people hang out daily, that's worth more than 100k monthly visitors from google who bounce after 10 seconds

I believe any forum that benefits people will never die. It's pointless to discuss this niche in general, Because there are many forums that are successful, but there are also forums that are equally unsuccessful.

The history of the internet began with forums. Please remember that.

Niche forums (unless it involves illegal stuff like cracking, ewhoring etc) are kinda dead (BHW is an exception).

All legal niche forums have pretty much been replaced by subreddits.
