Niche forums (unless it involves illegal stuff like cracking, ewhoring etc) are kinda dead (BHW is an exception).

All legal niche forums have pretty much been replaced by subreddits.

1) I don't know your idea of "dead" but when I say about a forum that is dead I mean that literally nobody frequents that forum anymore, or the site itself is gone.

If your idea of "dead" is that the forum dropped from 10 million unique page views per month 10 years ago to "only" 1 million this year then yeah, you could say that forums are dead...

2) niche forums rarely get millions of views per month, and - like you said - BHW is the exception because it's a forum that caters to several big industries (SEO, make money online, automation, etc), but this doesn't mean that forums that "only" get 10-20k views a month (just a random number, it could be 1k views or 1 million, I don't care) are dead just because they don't pull the numbers in (how could they when they are niche? Some niches are bigger, others not so much)

3) unfortunately, we are not allowed to mention other forums in here, but I can think of at least 3 forums that are niche and not dead, off the top of my head, and I'm not even talking about country-specific forums which I am willing to bet that you've not researched yet

I am speaking about English-speaking forums (probably located in English speaking countries) that are in 2 different niches (2 of them in tech, the 3rd one in parenting) that are still alive (not sure about the kicking part, but they're still not dead)

Anyway, I don't agree with you, but that's because I don't agree with your definition of "dead", so probably that's where the disagreements stem from

Dead for what? SEO links? Referral link-through traffic? Diversity, reputation, topical relevancy? What is your emphasis? This is like saying "isn't stock investing dead?" Which stocks, exactly? What you should do is search and select according to your preferences. If you want to gain relevant authority links for ranking purposes, look for relevant forums that allow d0follow links and have strong metrics.

If they only allow no-follow links, you can sort by how high-traffic they are, and put useful posts on the most active/current threads. If they don't allow links, but have good authority or traffic anyway, drop brand mentions of your site. Build a list of many dozens of relevant "living" sites that will help you, according to these factors.

Everything is depend upon the investment and keep patience. If you build a good forum pf individual niche and you spend good and at right direction, it will stand within a year or 2. There is nothing dead if you have a enough money and good brain.
