I met up with a friend who has access to the full capabilities of the new Bing. Here's what I think:
- First, I asked it to recommend one of the bars in my area. The results I got were similar to ChatGPT. I could hover over any underlined result to get more information, and the results had links to their source. As we "talked", it generated a new list with six different results. I then asked it about the hours of the second one, and the bot was able to understand what I meant and give me what I wanted. However, some of the links at the bottom of the result were not clickable.
- Then, I tried asking about a 3-day itinerary in the same location for a friend that was visiting me. The results were not bad, but I wished it provided direct links to purchase tickets for the suggested activities.
- I then asked the bot for help, wondering if it could be used for resources or answers for when I am feeling depressed. The links directed me to both local and faraway clinics and to some articles, and even a few ads. After clicking out of the chat, I saw hotline numbers as well as other mental health-related topics.
- I think it's definitely a fun new feature and while Microsoft still has a way to go and there are some kinks to work out, my friend and I agreed that general audiences might feel inclined to use it regularly.
