About Option 1 : Depending upon your parents for funding your education is not that bad if you are confident about helping them back in next 2-3 years. Afterall we have been dependent on our parents since childhood, there is no shame as long as you promise them to pay back and look after them after you are on your own.

If you want a career in programming only then I would suggest not to waste time on learning IM things as it will take you many months if not years to master a skill to be able to earn some substantial revenue. It is better to focus on improving coding skills during the break, it will help you eventually in your college studies as well as will land you in a good job immediately after completing your education.

About Option 2 : Can you manage to get distracted by the amount of time and effort social media marketing demands? If your ultimate goal is to be a programmer then better focus on that.

However if you REALLY have any plan to build career in IM and social media marketing then you should start immediately learning IM and Social media marketing along with your college studies. Never waste time in learning and start from this VERY moment.
