I need help.

dallaswynn.....I'm not trying to sound like a broken record but the Keyword Academy teaches you how to do keyword research too (hence the name). In fact, keyword research and SEO are the two main things you'll learn there. The program is free for the first month and there's no requirement to stay after a month so you could potentially pick up the info you need there and then move on.

Hey don't worry about it, I hope I'm not being an annoying noob!!:) So, do you think I could pick up enough information to know what I'm talking about within that first month? (I know I won't be a pro, but will I leave with a lot of info?)

It's certainly possible. But even if it did take you a few months more to learn the ropes, it's only $33 per month. I've been a member there for 13 months and it's been some of the best money I've ever spent.

What was your experience/knowledge level of IM and site building before you became a member and what would you say it is now? How many sites are you currently operating and do you make any money with them/how much?

Before I signed up for the Keyword Academy, I was a total internet marketing noob. I mean, my knowledge was pretty much zero. I didn't even know how to set up a Wordpress site on a hosting account or even put Adsense on it.

I only have three sites now and I'm making a little over $1,000 per month now. I know it's nowhere near as much as a lot of folks on BHW. I just recently joined this site and hope to take it to the next level with the knowledge I'm getting from this site.

I don't know if this is acceptable practice of not, can you pm me one of your sites so I could take a peak? I'm not trying to copy it or anything. Also, what is your revenue generated from?

Most internet marketers won't show you their sites. And there's a good reason for it. For example, my #1 earning site right now makes most of its money from Adsense. A person can "click bomb" your site and get you in trouble with Google. Don't take it personally or anything like that. I don't even show my sites to most of my friends. It's just a good practice to protect your investment.

No offense taken, I didn't expect you to anyway. So, if you are making $1,000.00 USD per month, what are your UVs up to? What is your SERP/PR? You have done all of this in 13 months?

dallaswynn, I was there for 14 months before moving on. When I started there I had previously had a social blog on blogger so I wasn't a TOTAL newb but I knew nothing about SEO. It took me 8 months to get to $1000 per month from SEO and I now make much more than that. Some do it faster, some slower.

So, if you are making $1,000.00 USD per month, what are your UVs up to? What is your SERP/PR?

I'm not Ramen, but I have 96 sites. As of the last PR update, 45 of them have a PR between 1 and 4, 1 PR4 and 10 PR3, the rest PR1 and PR2. I have several dozen #1 positions that I know of but they vary a great deal in traffic and difficulty. My daily UVs for the sites that I follow (the ones that make me the most money) hovers around 4k.

When I started the Keyword Academy I committed to learning everything my first month then quitting and doing it on my own. You cannot believe how thankful I am for not following through on that. BTW, I left because I didn't like being one of the big fish in a small pond. I would rather try to be a big fish in a big pond.

@ ramen, what was your handle there when I was there? I went by the name "L Brown." ;)

Your sites are generating revenue with adsense?

Most of my income is from Amazon but I get some from Adsense and other affiliate programs.

Did you learn about these revenue streams through the keyword academy? I haven't ever heard of using amazon to generate income without ebay as a proxy.

The keyword academy is more based on Adsense but it seems they are covering more revenue streams now. I have a personal bias against Adsense so I don't like to see too much of my income coming from them.

I haven't ever heard of using amazon to generate income without ebay as a proxy.

I have NEVER heard of doing Amazon via an ebay proxy. You can generate a lot of income with Amazon alone. A lot of people shop there. They have a solid affiliate program and it is not hard to hit 7%+ commission each month. Considering the volume of stuff that is sold, it is quite profitable.

Still Adsense is best for newbs because it requires less setup and additional research. You can mine your data to find what keywords are most profitable. That is why the keyword academy focuses so much on adsense.

So basically you create a blog about, lets say cameras, and get it high in SERP. Then put amazon banners on the site and it automatically recognizes which items to place based on keywords?

BTW, the ebay proxy thing is kind of like reselling. You just find a hot product on ebay, find out which ones are selling cheaper on Amazon and then sell them on ebay. Have amazon send the item to the buyer and you keep the profits.

I create layouts on my site with products from Amazon; I don't use banners or widgets. It is a good deal of work and it has taken some experimenting to perfect my technique. So if I have a page about "pink Cannon cameras" I will rank for that term and create a custom display of pink Cannon cameras for the searcher to pick from. I also have a "Browse More" button on most of my sites with a link to a search result on Amazon. When someone buys from Amazon through my link I get a commission.

As I said, Adsense is easier for newbs because you don't have to learn how to do all of that.

You're talking about dropshipping from Amazon to ebay which is less profitable than it once was due to increasing ebay fees. I've done something similar on Amazon. It is quite profitable but is is a pain in the ass. I gave all of my data to my dad who actually likes customers. (I can't stand them.)

SEO and affiliate marketing are COMPLETELY different. I don't have to deal with customers or feedback or any of that crap.

So once the item sells, do you have to go and remove the add from amazon? Have you ever used WP Zon Builder?

I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that you are the type of person that likes to see a finished product to help you get your mind around how the process works. As a web developer I can completely relate.

The problem that you will run across is that there is a ton of information. Everybody and anybody with an internet connection can claim to be a guru and that this or that method works. People really making money on a site will almost never link directly to an example of their work for the reason stated above. Truth be told most methods can be made to work. The amount of effort vs reward ratio is the only real question.

They all boil down to:

  1. Generate traffic -- Ideally targeted
  2. Present an offer to the traffic
  3. Refine sales copy presented to traffic
The first and most basic is create a web property like a blog, a regular site, a shopping cart, or even social accounts like Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Each one of these web properties will have a different strategy that you will have to learn and the traffic generated from each will be useful in different ways.

There is no real shortcuts. Stop reading and start doing. I recommend focusing on just one type and don't move on until you have mastered how it works. Pick one that you can picture working because if you don't believe in it you will definitely not put the effort in to make it work.

Here is another spoiler alert. Despite many of the crazy posts claiming to make $5k a day it will never happen over nite or in the first week as you start out. If it was that easy everybody would be making $5k a day and then it would make it pretty pointless to come and post on a forum like this making 1.8 million a year.

Once you have gotten good at generating traffic to a property then start learning how to present your offer to this traffic.

Depending on how good of a job you did targeting your traffic to start with this can be simple or be impossible. Not all traffic is equal and the rule of thumb is targeted traffic is king. Personally I believe that people search the internet to solve problems. The problem can be they are bored and want entertainment, they're overweight, or that want to find a girl friend, and the list goes on and on. If you know the problem then all you do is present a solution to that problem. The user gets what they want and if you do it correctly you make some money. This also results in less people getting pissed off that they visited your web property and felt like it was a waste of their time. False advertising does work in the short term, but if you want to be in it for the long haul and have a good reputation try to target your traffic to your offer.

This part of the process I consider the most important and is my favorite. Really get into it and describe the PERFECT person down to the tiny details that would really benefit from your offer. Too many times I see people say "Everybody that smokes is a potential customer for my quit smoking product". Not even remotely close to true. Most smokers may say they want to quit, but the effort required to change your lifestyle is more miserable than living with smoking. Then there are many who are just happy to continue smoking. So now you know there is large group that will never buy so you dive deeper and ask what would motivate someone to really want to quit smoking. Answers would range from health conditions, the cost of cigarettes are to high, wife or husband nagging. Next I would pick a group from my list of potential problems and I would create my page to LASER PINPOINT my targeted group. In this example a great health reason would be a woman that just found out she is pregnant. Unless she doesn't care about her unborn kid(Yes I know there are plenty like that) she will have an over whelming reason to quit at least for the term of pregnancy.

When you target like this you will have a lot lower number of total visitors, but your conversion rate will be much higher and will normally be much less effort to rank. If at the end of the day you want 10 sales a day you can shoot to the masses and fight higher competition for 1 in a 100 conversion or really target and get 5-8 in a 100 for stuff that doesn't take near the effort to rank. Yes know their are some offers that will convert much higher to targeted traffic, but I'm trying present more of a realistic average that most people should be able to achieve without running across a super hot trend.

As far as spoon-fed blue print on how to get started I would say the suggestion above about the crash challenge is a very realistic step by step way to get started as a noob. My own experiences lead me to believe that the only real negative to the guide is that it would not work out as expected if you are going after high competition keyword phrases, but that is not the intention of that guide. It is meant as a get started guide.

Another word of wisdom is just because you see something written on the internet don't accept it as fact. IM has many variables that all work together to determine the success or failure of a given project. Personal effort is a huge one. Testing the common convention is another. If you see 20 people saying you can't do something because it will hurt your rankings create a test site that you can experiment with on these ideas.

Bottom line is you have got to put in the effort and test it yourself. Sure you can get started following a guide, but if you don't understand "WHY" you are doing what you are doing then you will be left on the side of the road as that market evolves and your outdated methods don't produce as well anymore.

Hope this helps a little. If you have any specific questions feel free to pm your skype info and I'd be glad to point you in the right direction if you are stuck.
