Hi I'm new on this forum.
I need advice on how to go about getting a virtual machine where I can run heavyweight activities instead of choking my laptop's space and memory.

try any of these if datacenter IP is good for you: aws.amazon, google cloud, microsoft azure.

It will cost a lot of money to have a heavy machine vps
you better work on your pc

heavyweight activities? such as what?
I believe you need a good specs VPS for that. With 8-core cpu, Dedicated GPU, SSD, and prabably at least 32 RAM. Might be best to use a desktop instead of a laptop.

What kind of heavy activities? If its just cpu intensive activities you can look at aws or any of the comperable services.
