I got scammed - Negative balance on PayPal

I sold a website through Flippa for $1,250 to a buyer.

He made the payment immediately after the sale, but after receiving everything, he disputed the payment, claiming that he never received the website.

I responded with all the evidence, including confirmation from Namecheap and the hosting provider, proving that he had indeed received everything. And guess what? PayPal still closed the dispute in his favor. I can't believe this injustice.

Now my account is in the negative, and PayPal wants me to add funds. There’s no way I’m going to pay.

I removed my phone number from the account, the address on file isn’t my real address, and I changed my default email to one that has already been deleted. However, my real email is still connected to the account as you can add up to 7, but I blocked PayPal as a sender in case they try to contact me.

The only real information they have is my name and last name, my actual IP address, and a fake address. However, if they look back 6–8 months, I once made a purchase using PayPal to my real address.

For anyone who has been in a similar situation, how bad can this get? I live in Europe, and I’ve read online that they may hire debt collectors. But based on the limited information they have, what can they really do?

I’m going to ignore them and not pay a cent. This is completely unjust, I still can’t believe it.

My personal advice to anyone selling with PayPal: Remove all your real personal information. F*%K PayPal.

Edit: I removed the money to my bank before they took it, so that's safe, but the buyer has a free website, piece of garbage that he is.

I did remove the money before PayPal took it luckily, but I am wondering what they can do with the information they have about me.

This is just so unfair.
 
Always raise a invoice to receive payment on PayPal

The sale was happend through Flippa, it's not possible to send an invoice manually.
 
You mentioned that you made a sale through Flippa, right? But Flippa uses escrow as its payment method. How did you end up using PayPal instead?

I did that years ago and worst that happened was they sent crap to my email, with bigger and bigger amount to pay each time. After couple of years they stopped sending even that. I never paid. But that was in 2010 so idk now.
 
If PayPal ever goes as far as sending debt collectors, contact your local Consumer Dispute Board or whatever authority handles/advises on consumer disputes.

They can contact the debt collectors/PayPal on behalf of you and handle it most of time.

Pretty country dependent though.
 
Fuck PayPal...with this money you can buy an aged stealth account, forget it and don't worry, those fuckers steal money from thousands of legit sellers
 
Do not worry. Nothing is going to happen.

Even if the balance was -$10k still nothing would happen. Just ignore their emails. And never use Paypal for transactions worth 3 figures or more.

That is sad, report to flippa and see how they could be of help.

Paypal has historically never been on the side of sellers. Even in some cases,. paypal would debit your account but the other party would not receive any funds.

It's a very shitty company. When paired with fraudsters as in your case, it becomes a major issue.
 
That's why i don't like PayPal payment via "GOODS and SERVICE". I always try to receive payment via "Friends and Family" option. If i receive payment via friends and family then if buyer open a dispute then payment never going to the buyer favor.

May I know one things from you? Why you didn't receive payment via "Friends and Family" from his(BUYER)?
 
That's really worst. But how one can safeguard from such scams? I mean if flippa is not safe which one is? This can happen to any product you sell and then the buyer can raise dispute. Strange!
