I agreed to build a website to a client. I was supposed to work at their premises and use their computer, but the place was an old barn and there was no heating or toilet facilities. I got ill. I informed the client that I will finish the website as we agreed but working at my home. The client also wanted me to make some phone calls using my own phone but I refused. I have told the client my terms and conditions orally as well as in writing. The client has not said anything. I finished the work as agreed and I got an email stating that I have stolen a laptop. The client has informed police that I have stolen a laptop. The client does not know where I live.

I feel annoyed and quite angry. It is not a huge amount of money but being asked to work in premises which are not meant for human beings was not in mind when I accepted to do the work. I am of course more than happy to return the laptop. I got the impression that I will never be paid. I certainly was not paid the way we agreed.

When sending or giving the laptop back to the client, I would like to surprise the client somehow. What could I do? Delete everything that has been installed? Get the laptop infected with a virus? Or what?

Print all emails to prove you did not steal the laptop. When you receive any official notice or visit from the police, file a counter-complaint against this person for falsely reporting a theft.

Backdoor the site. Ask for your money for 1-2 weeks. If he pays you forget about it. If he does not pay you use the backdoor to do something. Be sure to use VPN or some kind of anon. protection.

Man dont waste time on bad clients it will only give you more headache and less return
just move on catch next client

Hand the laptop in anonymously, with details of who it belongs to attached. anything else is a dangerous risk.

Stealing is not blackhat, its calling an illegal act. Hence, you're better to go returning it but if the client isn't paying you properly and as decided, you could surely have some fun with him by installing a lot of adware of the laptop and some .swf files which show that the laptop is on auto destruction mode and something similar. That might make him pay you as discussed and later when he gets to know about it, he would crack himself up.

I wish i knew the name of the virus thats been on my laptop for a long time I'd tell you to use it because its a motherFkr but with all things aside karma is a bitch so when people really do you wrong just let it go trust me they will get it back way worst than what they did to you.
