I really cant understand how many dumbs are there i really cant find someone who really do what he says.

I wanted only manual submission to my list.

All of these guys wanted to presuade me to use their list (of course beacuse they have automated it)

Finally i found someone and he promised do good work also accepted all instructions one of them was usage of my spintax.

He delivered and now i see that he even didnt know what spintax is! He just removed breckets and submit it like that.

I only hope that beacuse of it was HIGH PR directory list moderators will not approve it.

And this is not only experience most of these guys deliver dead links etc..

No offense OP but a good manager will know how to choose and get the maximum out of his/her stuff.

In market places like oDesk you need to verify every little detail in the beginning and later keep monitoring as work is in progress. What you could do is ask the provider to do few submissions first before they continue... only after you approve the sample work they should complete the task.

    Good luck with next time.

Yes exactly this was what i did but that guy delivered whole work at once when i asked only for few submission frist.

But people there are like idiots they will promise everything and they presuade that they understand but they actually dont...

"If the instructions are not clear, if the orders are not obeyed, it is the fault of the general. But if the instructions are clear and the soldiers still do not obey, it is the fault of their officers." - Art of War, Sun Tzu

Always keep that in mind when hiring on oDesk. You need exact step-by-step instructions so they can learn and adapt. Not everyone can read your mind, and there are things you might think its common sense, but its actually not. Or perhaps, you are hiring the cheapest labor and hoping for highest quality, that will not work neither. Been there and failed. Trust me.

@originalposter totally agree. I have spent thousands on Odesk and the story is always the same. You have to be prepared to spend as much of your time explaining and training as you would to do the damn thing yourself 3 times. You have to be 100% perfect in your instructions and then have them check with you after each step. Also I think it's a really bad idea to hire the cheapest person / or firm. Outsourcing your work is still a good way to scale, but if you think of it as saving time, you are dead wrong, at least at first. Once someone knows the steps perfectly.. it is a big time saver, until then, guess who is spending a shit load of time on the job? Yep, you. Just my .02 be prepared to invest time into a new employee or don't outsource.

Yup, thats right. Don't have time to train? No problem. Pay more for someone with more experienced and know what they are doing. That's how the game works.

As pointed out on platforms like odesk and elance you would have spend a long time explaining exactly what you want and how you want it. However once you find someone who can literally follow every instruction, you should hold onto the person, that being said, you should try experienced people not the new users. As it would be just like hitting your head on the wall:)

There's nothing wrong with the freelancing site itself, it's just overrun with all the 3rd worlders who do not have the reach to good education, can't talk English properly and so waste your time, so that's what happens.

Try finding someone here on bhw, people here tend to be more knowledgeable as they are reading and learning on a constant basis.

I've used oDesk alot and never run into problems. I set them up with clear instuctions and follow them hand by hand in the beginning if needed.
For more quality work I find experienced workers which is more expensive but they get the work done, simply as that.

Things are like that mostly because the economy at Odesk is messed up. Some people are willing to work literally for pennies and when people hire them they complain about poor results. I`m seeing more and more employers looking for SEO "gurus," "pro`s," "rockstars" etc. and paying 2-3$ an hour, that says it all...

If anybody pays the freelancer what he actually deserves, then I think they can be fruitful. If you want cheap work in SEO then you have to negotiate with the quality. A SEO guru never work for penny or $1-2 per hour. Because getting high quality backlinks is bot so easy. And this cheap workers are doing shit to the SEO industry and making lots of sites penalized by google.

    Home Page:
you have to use some of the advanced settings when posting a job.

set your price you wanna pay and then also set how many stars the sellers should have and how good their English skills are.
this way you will get much better people. and always ask for some samples where possible.

i think there is no positive side for advanced setting becuase there is now a lot of cheap worker and they collect a good feedback from their friends(client) accounts.

When I hire someone from Odesk I give them a task to complete that is not critical or for a customer so I can screen their work and
see what type of freelance work they do. Afterwords the ones that make the cut move on to more important task.
