hyphens in URL bad?

I have 2 words in the URL, so lets say for example the words are "Free games".

Is it ok if I do "free-games.com"

the domain "freegames.com" is inactive but parked.


Will using a hyphen and doing "free-games.com" damage my SEO, Rankings or anything?


This will be a site with cracks etc

Just one hyphen doesn't matter, looks tad spammy but that's all.
 
Google considers a hyphen as a space anyway. Yes freegames.com is better than free-games.com, but still fine.

Only time it bugs me if if I have to tell someone the name physically, and say "free hyphen games dot com".
 
A hyphen is fine, as mentioned it's just a space.
People are expecting hyphens more and more anyway as they see them more often due to webmasters snapping up all the EMD's, burning and dropping them and leaving little choice for legitimate sites.
 
It's fine, just looks bad aesthetically. Plenty of sites still rank the same though.
 
As long as you don't have two hyphens next to each other: -- :clap2:
 
I rank sites with hyphens all the time. Never has been a big deal to me, and shouldn't be to anybody. I see hyphenated, ranked websites every day.

I can't recall seing website that has hyphen in the domain that wouldn't be either spammy or just gemerally low quality.
 
Really doesn't matter much...
as you are getting the keywords....

I have one that is about 7 years old that has been ranking for keywords in the business niche for years... KW-KW-KW.com.

It generates a ton of traffic and ranks for a lot of different KWs.

It is ugly as all get out as I have ZERO designing skills and didn't even know word press when I put it up but the content is spot on and the domain apparently means very little to Google.
 
I prefer non hyphened domains, but it's just for aesthetics. 1 hyphen won't decrease your rankings.
 
Instead of Hyphen what about freebestgames.com or freeallgames.com
 
I would rather go with freegamesonline.com.
 
I see lots of authority websites with hyphen in their domain, and it dont have any affect from seo point of view. You can get a domain with hyphen or without hyphen.
