If any of you had read my journey thread you would know that I am currently building a huge How-To website.

Someone suggested that instead of doing that, I stick to small and specific niches first.

My plan right now is to find keywords with over 2000 searches and over $2 cpc with an average pr of less then 2 for the top ten results and write about them. Do you think I will start earning good money after 1000 articles if I do keyword research that way.

Or do you think I should take the advice and focus on something more specific for now?

Who knows. You don't just write 1000 articles and money starts pouring in.
You need traffic. If your content is shit, no one is going to naturally link you, no one is going to recommend you.
So if you're spending all this time with 1000 articles, then do it right and make it high quality.
If you're doing something to produce 1000 articles quick and easy and don't care if it fails, then that's another story.

You have no idea what I go through to write the articles. I spend so much time researching each topic the point that I can answer most questions about it. Then write what I learned.

And of course I won't stop at 1000 just wondering if it is a reasonable goal and worth my time and effort

So what am asking is do I have a good plan. experience people answer please

I always like to focus on more specific niches that I am interested in

I've started off doing that too. If you look at my journey. Had some rough times but i've stayed in that niche and targeted long tail keywords. Makes good enough money, but would flip it for a bigger one.
If you've got the dedication to write 1000 articles or more constantly, then I'd say go for the huge website

How much time do you have? If you have plenty of time, then go broad. If you need to see some returns sooner, go specialized. Remember that every page tells a story, and many stories told together start sounding like gibberish. This is the same for search engines. Don't expect to rank well in many categories when your posts are all about different subjects. But, if you rank well in a few, and it becomes popular, then a little slice of many pies can be better than all of a single pie.

I hope it works out for you.

That doesn't mean anything to me. Anyone can do that, and the end product is still crap.
Anyways, I didn't say yours was crap, I said if it's not great content, it will never catch on. You're never going to see some site with 'okay' content turn into something special.

Okay I understand. Now back to my question, if I have great content what should I go for?

Thanks so much for all your replies. poetry1969 in my case I am doing the long tail keyword approach and I am not trying to rank for any general or broad keyword.

I have over 6 month of free time. I can write 5 articles a day aside from working on my youtube channel. So you suggest I go for the How to website with well researched keywords and topics?

you need more traffic to start to give money..and more time ;)

Its better to write 10 articles and rank them top 10 rather then posting 1000 articles which are ranked nowhere.

It is not about ranking or not it is about the website idea. I can later work to rank many articles at once
