Now it's integrated into google +1, which I'm sure will mean, if I don't have a large circle, my review will do little to boost my google places rank.

Does anybody have any ideas (I know it's soon) how to game the new format? Like reg and age +1 accounts, send friend/follow requests to 100s of random people, then post review after a couple months?

Jeez man, my business relies on places. What you all think?

Ugh I just saw this. Not looking forward to dealing with the social networking crap google is forcing on us.

you can buy circle followers on fiverr so that shouldn't be a problem...it seems google is going to automatically convert these pages to start...i don't think you should be too worried until you see what shakes out...

google won't see that your circle followers were unnaturally obtained?

what do you mean google is going to convert these pages? I just don't know what that sentence means.

Man I don't even understand google +1. Compared to every other social net, it makes the least sense.

If anybody can give a good step by step to dealing with the system I would be so grateful. I need my places, and I'm not computer savvy.

I want my reviews to

a. not penalize me because IP, age of google account, or some other factors
b. boost my place page ranking, and not get removed (ive noticed they now remove lots of spam reviews. They've gotten very yelp filtery)

Do I need followers on plus one? Do you think it even matters? Logically, it would seem the more followers, the most authority given to review.

Please help guys. I know it's gonna take lots of time to get answers to new places/+ mix. But I just created 9 local sites, and I want to begin optimizing for places (beyond the old stuff like citations, KLZ, pics, photos, categories, geo-location, etc).

I know from experience first/second position or bust. After that you ain't getting much serious traffic (specially if you're running AW too)

Thanks for help guys

So stupid, it's hard enough getting customers to leave a review in the first place, not many have google accounts. And hardly anyone outside of the tech scene has an active G+ page in the UK. Along with them removing valid reviews from my listing, it really is one of the worst review systems.

No matter how hard they try the people are simply not buying into Google pus.

This move with Google Places is going to go nowhere fast.

I've been telling people not to invest major or minor cash into Google pus because it will not be around for the long haul. If it makes it past 2012, that will be a IM miracle.

I don't think you need any followers or any activity for that matter on +1.

If I'm a regular sane person and i don't use the social aspects of google, why should my review on a business i visited suddenly be worth less than the review of some kid with 100k followers or whatever.

If google is trying to gauge the authenticity of an account leaving the review, the amount of followers on the account doesn't make much sense.

There isn't really a way for them to do it. People may sign on to an account once a year to leave a review, and otherwise not use google at all. I very often send out emails to all customers in my mailing list asking them to leave me a review for $5 off their next visit. Here come 20 reviews from random brand new or completely unused accounts leaving reviews on my business page all on the same day. And it's all legit.

As long as your places appear to anyone using google saerch, any random person who doesn't even use google should be able to leave a review.

Google will now take in reviews from Zagat which will are based on a 30 point scale. Sure this update will suck but remember....Improvise....Overcome .....Adapt.... :)

Google+ may not be growing, but it's not going anywhere either. It probably isn't costing them that much to maintain, and they want to keep a product available for when facebook starts falling apart.

The problem with google+ is that there is only so much social interaction that i need, and i get all of it from facebook. Google+ is probably as good as facebook is. But why on earth should i put all the effort into switching and learning an entirely new interface?

If i understand correctly Zagat is only for the food&beverage industry. My PC repair business will never be getting reviews from Zagat.

Wow just when I get into business offering google places optimization this happens.. I'm fairly new to this.. And I cant tell yet but am I totally fucked? Lol

Unlikely. As of this moment there is no evidence that google places is going to work any differently from how it has worked before. The only actual difference so far is that they don't use 5 stars, they use 3 points. Big whoop.

Places will still be appearing as search results, so why should the old places SEO techniques stop working just because the actual page itself is now more integrated with google+? Citations are still relevant. Business directories are still relevant. Organic ranking is still relevant. Reviews should still be relevant. Profile completeness should still be relevant...etc.

I'm not seeing anything drastically different.

It is very soon to reach to any conclusions about having affects from followers. It is something which will be connected and will impact for sure. If someone have huge followers (+1's factor) in circles those pages are going to rank much better than those have lesser +1's on their pages.

About Zagat type reviews it is not necessary that all kind of business fall under that category. There are lots of profession related pages like doctors, repairing centers there they will only take 0 to 3 ratings for Quality only. Like this for example:-
