Can switching to SSL (https) have a negative seo impact if all the backlinks are http?

No, it shouldn't. Backlinks don't need to be https when to switch to SSL. You should have a slight boost in SEO if your site speed doesnt slow down.

No one care about your SSL setup. It might have tiny boost on SEO. Really TINY

I'm experimenting with the free SSL service "Let's Encrypt". Do you think it may slow down the site?

SSL is a minimum impact on speed, but I think it can also harm your site a little in search engine rankings, because if their is a link that goes to "HTTP" then you have to 301 Redirect it to HTTPS, in which some link juice will be lost.

If you're starting a new site from scratch, then HTTPS is the way to go.

I wouldn't do it, just leave it as is.

https is one of the ranking factor. it shouldn't affect backlinks according to my knowledge.

From my own experience, I found that HTTPS is interpreted differently from http by search engines...I once built some links from a website to my http site but noticed there was no juice being passed after a month or so....i scanned the links on that site and realized that all the http sites were rendered as no follow while the https was all do follow.....the reason being a link from a https (secure) site to a http (unsecured) is considered dangerous to the viewers of the https site...That's why the backlink I directed to my site didn't count towards my backlinks profile. The site owners don't want their https site linking to a http for security reasons. Expect more sites to do this in the future

If your site is setup already in http and u have already gathered some links to it, then I would suggest u go for a 301 direct to ur https...the link juice you'll lose is nothing significant....over 90% of ur link juice will be transferred...and you won't have a problem in the future of potential backlinkers regarding ur site as malicious.
