So a client of mine wanted a mere 50% increase (0.5x) in a 12 month period.

I 9x'ed their business in 4 months.

Around the 2nd month, I started suggesting
an additional commission structure and they seemed fine with it.

Every month, it seemed like they were just waiting for the 4 month
period to end, so we could negotiate something on the results created.

On the last day of our contract, the client said they don't need my services anymore.

That's okay, can I get my commission on the results created?

Client said no as it wasn't in the contract.

When I confronted them through email, they even removed the feedback
they gave me on LinkedIn.

How would you respond?

I am moving forward with legal action (False misrepresentation)
but just curios as an SEO, how would you respond?

Weird ppl . . .

Chalk it up as a lesson. Move on and get it in writing next time.

If you were able to increase their businesses that much that fast, your time would be better spent on other projects.

Yeah I know I will lose the case but I will go sue them anyways. He shouldn't have removed the feedback. That's a clear attempt to harm me. I sued someone else before but yeah . . . Will keep you guys posted.

Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it.

As many people suggested just move on. These things happen and if the $ amount is not that big you shouldn't waste your time with legal stuff. You could use that time to find better paying and more loyal clients (which is extremely hard to do nowadays).

Hate to beat a possible dead horse here guys but is this clause worth anything?

I know we're not lawyers here but from common sense point of view.

Forgot I had it in the contract.

They went from 500,000 to 6million in revenue (Under 6 months) and I didn't get jack.

That's why a little hard to move right on . . .

If someone produced such results for me, I would have gone out of my way to compensate them.

Like I said, weird ppl . . .

"agrees to re-negotiate" doesn't have any meaning. You can negotiate all you want, this paragraph doesn't even imply that over-achieving would have to lead to higher compensation. Further, if I understood correctly, the whole thing was over after 4 months, so "after 6 months of working together" won't be triggered.

Now,I am not blaming you in any way - given your point of view it seems like your client is a big turd - but you need to have better service agreements to protect yourself. That should be the main thing you take away from this.

Can you tell him without getting yourself in legal trouble "You know, I know someone, that didn't pay his SEO guy what he owned him, and all of sudden the website got penalized by Google. Just saying.."

Appreciate that bud but . . . I dunno . . . I feel like if I respond, I would be no better than them.

Maybe the universe wanted it this way, who knows . . . I'll just move on . . . Thx for the reply though - appreciate it.

Honestly, if you don't have it in a written contract you might just be wasting your time (and money) hunting them down legally. I'm no lawyer, but it sounds like a losing battle arguing he said / she said. If there's no signed agreement then it's going to be hard to win! The good news, you now know you're capable of making online businesses boom so I would just take all the data and use them as a case study to get new clientele :) best of luck buddy!

Well if they got this kind of results just in several months it's really their loss not to keep working with you. I know it sucks that there are people that greedy and it must be tough to let it slide but I agree with the others you should keep it in mind for the future and move on. On the bright side you clearly are good at what you are doing :)

Yeah I know I will lose the case but I will go sue them anyways. He shouldn't have removed the feedback. That's a clear attempt to harm me. I sued someone else before but yeah . . . Will keep you guys posted.

Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it.

A clear attempt to harm you, would have been negative feedback, and not just the removal of positive feedback. Your contract isn't clear (judging by what you've chosen to show us), so at this point, it's just a learning experience. Time to move on.

Threaten him by saying that you'd help his competitors get his ass and help them 10x their revenues.

Save pennies by loosing dollars sucker!
