Okay, I know first page is very valueble but i'm just wondering, how many sites on 1st page those the average internet user click on? Have any statistic experiments been done that could answer my question? I tried to look but all i could find was statistics about click rates, organic vs paid clicks....etc good info but not quite what i was looking for.

edit:sorry didn't explain the question properly, when I said "how many sites on 1st page those average internet user click on" i was asking how many do they open. Like take the web design niche for example, since users are parting with relatively big sums of cash, they will usually open about 10 websites or more before choosing a web design company to ensure they get the best deal. If a user is looking for a cheaper product/service online, i'm sure they will open less websites before choosing which site to buy from, but what i want to know is average amount of websites they would open on 1st page.

It all depends on the niche and monthly searches. Some keywords which have like, 1milion searches lets say for example, even on the 2nd page you will get traffic. In other tight niches, only the top 5 will mostly get 90% of the traffic. In my main niche for example, #1 gets 70% of the traffic (tested by me), 2 and 3 20% together and then the rest of the positions what is left. But as I said this isn't rocket science it depends on many factors, mostly the niche, engaging titles, click-through ratio, bounce rate, etc...

For example, you could be #5 on the 1st page and still get more clicks than #3, just because the surfer is more intrigued to click your website (interesting title) than the other one.

the first page is good, but unless you are top 3 you may as well be on page 5.

For me you need to be in the top 2 results of page one. For any search terms that trigger ads above the organic results this will push the all the organic results except the top 1-2 below the fold (on most common laptop screen sizes). This means a searcher will have to scroll the page to see your results. So on any given search the most meaningful spots for generating organic traffic are #1-2... At a minimum you need to be top 5 otherwise widgets like related articles will push you even further down the page. My sites are all retail. I consider anything on the bottom half of page one as an opportunity and everything page 2 and beyond a failure.

wow 90% to top 5, strange always use to think it was equal, like 1st 10 pages got about 10% of traffic cause i always check all the pages to ensure i'm getting the best deal/information possible, assumed everyone else was like that.

That's pretty old data. The graphic above is old too... haven't seen SERPs like that for years. I'd wager that the top 3 get 90% now (90% of what is left for organic search results... definitely not 90% overall). With ads and info widgets pushing the organic results further down the page and directly competing with organic results for the finite clicks.

If you find and rank monetizing keywords at the first page of Google then you can make money if you insert proper products into your website.

If I had to do it all over again, I would've looked at other platforms, depending on google serp is just too welfare, you have to depend on it like going pay cheque to pay cheque, the grind is terrible.

    Anyways.

Wagering is not the same as testing. When you say "haven't seen SERP-s" you mean you checked all the existing billions of keywords' SERP-s every year ??? No you haven't.

OP, my answer to the title of this thread -> 1st page on Google is like running a cloth store in a famous Mall in your city.

I would think it's pretty valuable, for me when I do searches and I'm sure for many others the first page is where you're going to be looking for all the content you were searching for. I mean I still go through page 2, 3, 4, etc. but that's only IF I'm not able to find what I need on the first page. Hope this helps!

what is interesting is that you'll get more traffic from #11 & #12 than you will from #9 and #10

I wish there was a heat map that also factored in all the other Non-SEO crap Google inserts (i.e. maps, news, etc.)

its valuable for popular keywords, ranking on the first page for keywords that attract no searches is pretty much a waste of time and resources.
