I've known for a while that you can use a custom domain with them, never tested it out until yesterday. They actually have some pretty good templates now that you can use and with some tweaks and minor optimization a site can look pretty good. I've found that with google photo setting changed to the high quality from original that google offers an unlimited amount of storage for photos. With up to 100 blogspot blogs allowed it seems like it has a lot of value if you use all 100 spots up for domains.100 domains could easily get in the multi terabyte range of bandwidth a month.

Average page size is about 2.3MB now, so at at just 4 pages per visitor average and 100 visitors a day average per site. It would use around 92GB/day or 2.7TB a month, and that seems just on the low end.

It's not the solution for every type of site, and eventually some of the websites with blogger may have to be upgraded to offer an even better experience for users. But for some projects it seems better than getting a vps/dedi to host 100 domains on.

These are some of the best looking ones I've seen so far.

For years I've always considered blogspot to be a low quality platform, but it seems like that is now longer the case.

It is good, but the site you create on Blogspot is not really really yours. Blogspot can ban you without any reasons and there is nothing you can do about it.

Self hosted for the Win ✌️

I've got over 30 blogs over at Blogspot. Some with custom domains and some not. One of the best platforms to work with in my opinion. Great with Adsense for obvious reasons.. However, most of my affiliate (Money) sites are running Wordpress, and hosted elsewhere.

Got to be careful with the affiliate sites on Blogger. Back up everything! They removed all my sites not long ago. When I complained they said it was a mistake and gave them all back. :)

I remember back in 2014 I saw this really nice photography website hosted on Blogspot. You couldn't even tell it was a Blogspot website and if you didn't know any better, you would've thought it was a Wordpress website with a premium theme. Nope, the owner of the site had custom-coded it and "pushed Blogspot to the limits", as he said.

It's actually what inspired me to create the "Blogger Conversion Kit" on Black Hat World in the downloads section. I had previously designed a couple of fairly nice websites using Blogger at the time, so I figured the members here could get some use out of knowing which codes work well on Blogger.

Anyone can ban you from their hosting service and there is nothing you can do about it. Even your ISP can cut off your service if they get complaints.

Even a domain name isn't even yours its owned by the holder of the tld and you are just renting it from them.

Blogger is a really good platform. I started my first money site on a blogspot.com site and then started using a custom domain on it. Kept my site there for almost 2 years I think.

Exactly. I don't know if you own it or rent it but they can definitely kick you out. Since blogger is free so people tend to make these excuses... I've used it with custom domain and loved it. You are hosting your site on google's server. You don't have to worry about speed or bandwidth and it's totally free and recently they have upgraded their dashboard as well.

Reading this thread one may almost get the impression that a free blogspot is just as good and safe as a self-hosted site with a paid domain name. That the likelihood of getting banned is just the same on blogger as it is on a self-hosted site.

    Well it's not.

You're much more likely to get banned on a free blogspot than with your own self-hosted site.

I'm mostly commenting for noobs who are not already aware of this. Don't be starting serious sites on blogspots. And if you do, then backup, backup, backup. One day you will wake up and probably find your site has been deleted (especially if you do PPD/PPI/CPA/Adfly/Ref Links/Affiliate Links/Overly Monetized/etc etc).

The guys that commented and implied that you can get banned no matter blogger or self-hosted... must be on drugs.

If you aren't doing low quality crap , its not something to worry about especially if you are backing up your website which you should be doing no matter which host you use.

I agree, there is more risk with Blogger, and you definitely don't want to start a full blown affiliate / CPA site there from the word GO. But that doesn't mean you can't start, or test out, a serious site there. I've started projects there that outgrew Blogger pretty quickly (I wanted to add more affiliate links).

All I do / done is 301 redirect the whole Blogspot blog to its new home on a self hosted, custom domain Wordpress site. Years later, still going strong. :) For many people (noobs) who don't have much money to play with, it's definitely one of the best places to start.

Equally, it's great if you have a blog(s) with quality content and know you are only going to be monetising with Adsense. That should be fine. In terms of affiliate links, all my blogs have a few, and most of them have been going for years. Overall, just don't take the piss and you should be OK. :D

I plan on just doing adsense, so for me blogger makes more sense financially until the platform becomes a liability for further growth.

Just remember that if they ban you before you switch to self-hosted and do a 301 redirect, all of your backlinks/social signals/webmaster submissions/etc/etc will be for nothing.

That said, my first ever blog was on Blogger, and when they banned me I got hosting and a domain name and went Wordpress. And months later I stumbled upon my old blogspot domain somewhere, and to my surprise, the blog could be registered again. So I registered it and did a 301 from it to my self-hosted site.

I already have a domain name so I would just have to do a dns change in the very unlikely chance that it gets banned. I plan on following both the blogger rules and the adsense rules to make sure everything is perfectly okay with what google wants.

Once you go to the settings>other to do the backup you can run a script to switch between each blog to download the backup, its just hitting
    (1. back up content - 2. save to computer - 3. x - 4. domain list - 5. next domain and back to step 1)

Not sure what you mean by "low quality crap", but there are plenty of decent bloggers who were banned and their blogs deleted from Blogspot just for having too many affiliate links or doing SEO on their blogs, etc.

The point is, you have no control over it whatsoever. It's a good platform to start with, if you are a 14 year old kid who heard about Adsense and want to make some moniez online, because normally at that age you wouldn't want to spend any money on domains, hosting, etc.

As for not having control over your domain or hosting in general, that's completely different. To have your hosting cancelled by your hosting company, you would have to be involved in some serious illegal shit, otherwise no one cares about your affiliates links or link building.
