Hello everyone! Over the past two months, we’ve noticed that channels violating Telegram’s placement rules and getting an iOS ban or so-called “shadow ban” are now much harder to completely block by the platform. These channels and groups become less visible to the algorithms processing complaints. This is due to Telegram ramping up its fight against paid blocking services. In the last six months, the demand for blocking services on Telegram has significantly increased, which led to changes in how key algorithms work.

In order for you to see the content of the channel if you see such a message you need to enable the “sensitive content” setting on the desktop version of Telegram or use an Android device.

However, it's important to note that this situation has two sides. On one hand, it has become harder to fight fake content or prohibited material, but on the other hand, if you have your own NSFW channel that you promote not through Telegram’s global search but via other methods (e.g., seeding or external traffic), theoretically, the artificial shadow ban could make your business more
resistant to bans. Moreover, there’s no need to make your channel private.

Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that NSFW channels under a shadow ban are much more resilient than groups. Deleting a channel with such a label has become almost impossible.

Use coded language, rotate accounts, keep groups private, and diversify traffic sources.

Thanks for your response! We have been studying the workings of Telegram algorithms for a long time and have thoroughly examined all the key aspects, including those you mentioned. This post is aimed at owners of NSFW businesses and is intended to analyze the current situation in light of changes in how the algorithms work. We would like to preemptively inform you that we will not be discussing blocking mechanisms in this post, as its main purpose is to help understand what exactly has changed in the platform's algorithmic approach.
