Hi, i am new to this field, running facebook ads, but conversion is very low, 95% of the people just take the free trials i offer and disappear. I currently target USA, 25+ year old, men and women and thats all, i have tried to add sport related keyword but the ads performed poorly, with the targeting i get 1.2-1.6$ per messaging conversion, with the sport related keywords 3-4$. Any suggestions on how to optimize the ads to get more conversions?

Bro, create multiple ad sets to test different age groups and ad creatives. Then, analyze the results to see which combination performs best.

I think you need to focus on analyzing the demographics and interests of your target audience to find an effective customer base to reduce the cost of reaching them. Try creating AB campaigns with a small budget to find an effective campaign and effective customers.

To optimize, you need to have a stable customer base and optimization will be effective if you can analyze your campaigns and from there summarize the customer base you are targeting, not a wide customer base from which the advertising distribution is not correct.

Lookalike Audiences:
Create a Lookalike Audience based on your existing customers or website visitors. Facebook will find users who share similar characteristics.
This can often outperform broad targeting.

Use pixels to eliminate old customers to avoid duplication.

Quick way to improve:
Target more clearly:
Segment groups: 25–34, 35–44, by specific interests (e.g. small business, digital tools).
Avoid targeting the entire 25+ too broadly.
Make ads more compelling:
State benefits and results after use.
Use strong CTAs: “Try it for free for 3 days – no card required!”
Try strategically:
Limit features.
After they use → send follow-up messages calling for upgrades.
Post-inbox messages:
Use chatbots to automatically send instructions + upgrade offers after a few hours.

You need different ads to find the right age target audience then you focus on the necessary audience

You should create ad groups with different age levels to track which age group has the best demand, along with the target I see that if you target such demand still can not achieve the best results.

Sounds like you’re getting a lot of freebie seekers. Maybe try narrowing your audience a bit more — focus on people who’ve shown purchase intent or interests that align closely with your offer. Also, tweaking your ad copy to highlight benefits after the trial or adding some scarcity could help filter out the tire kickers.

It seems that your CPM is quite high, I am not aware of your product so it is difficult to advise. But you can pay attention to the following:
1. Target area. Do not let the overlapping target area, leading to advertising appears more in people who have no need.
2. You should spend many types to measure. Test Content, Test Media, ... recommended to use 2-3 accounts and each account will test 1 topic. Each topic will spend 5 different fries to test.
3. Also you should focus on the target keywords because that is also important and affect the cost

If you target too broadly, your ads will not be delivered accurately. You should divide your target audience into small campaigns, from there find your ideal audience.

It might help to filter low-intent users before giving access to the free trial — even a short form can make a difference. Also worth testing Lookalike Audiences from users who actually stayed active, and retargeting those who didn’t finish the process. Sometimes the biggest gains come from tweaking what happens after the click.

One campaign you create with many ad groups. Quite effective bro.

Create a multiplier campaign with multiple groups. That's your measure.

You should consider refining your audience targeting or clarifying the value of your offer, as broad targeting often attracts people only interested in free trials; running small A/B tests can help identify which strategies deliver higher-quality conversions.

To ensure your ads get the best results, it's important to segment your audience based on specific interests. A broad audience can make your ads less effective and lower your CTR. Start by clearly defining your target audience, then run a small campaign.

Try refining your targeting to focus on buyer intent, not just general interests. Also test retargeting and lookalike audiences for better quality leads.
