How to structure blog categories for SEO?

Both flat and silo structures have their place, but for SEO, the silo structure wins in the long term, especially if you're building topical authority.

Why silo?

Helps Google understand content hierarchy.

Improves internal linking and crawlability.

Keeps users engaged with related content.

When to go flat?

Small niche sites with <30 posts.

Simpler navigation for general audiences.

Tips: You can mix both. Keep main silos (categories), but avoid over-nesting.

If the content is limited, a flat structure is simple and crawl-friendly. But if the niche is large and covers multiple topics, a silo structure helps search engines understand the hierarchy.
 
I like the hybrid setup—sealed for the main sections, flat where depth isn't needed. Keeps things scalable without overcomplicating the structure. Clean URLs, tight internal linking, and schema do the rest.
 
If you have more than 10 blogs then I recommend silo structure.

No structure other then to make sure I cover all services provided. For my agency as an example I do local SEO, Pay Per Click, Web Design, etc. So I will rotate in blogs that cover those services. Just do some keyword research on trending keywords. Interlink to internal relevant pages and blogs. A couple external links to relevant sources.
