What do you mean by excessive spending? Reduce your daily ad budget and set a specific limit instead of using automated bidding for your CPC. You will spend according to this limit, and Google will not exceed the caps you have set.

one thing people miss… daily budget isn’t a hard cap, google can spend up to 2x on some days. if it’s a fixed campaign, use a total campaign budget where available so you know the max from the start

Google can spend 2x your daily budget on any single day. It evens out over the month, capped at 30.4x. If I was you I'd set the daily at half what you can stomach.

Set a daily budget. Add spending alerts. Check your campaigns regularly. This way small overspends do not add up.

yeah one thing to watch out for is search partners and display network... google opts you into those by default when you make a search campaign. they usually just waste budget on junk traffic tbh so turn them off. also check your location settings and change it to presence only, otherwise you'll get clicks from people outside your target area who just showed interest in it.

If ur new, keep the daily budget low at first and monitor it closely. Once u know how the campaign is spending, u can increase it slowly.
