I've been concentrating a lot of my efforts on creating and growing useful twitter accounts. Here what I worked out as a step by step guide to fast growth.
Step 1: Pick a name that either sounds interesting or very common. Don't choose a spammy name like: internetriches101. Go with names that are either clever or plain. Armstrong3 ect.
Step 2: Make a customized background. Don't use a background making sevice that forces a url into you background. We want to make this look like you put effort into it but that you aren't an comp wiz. So grab a couple pics that have to do with your 'interest' cut them up and make something that looks like it was time consuming to make.
Step 3: tweet. Make a up 50+ tweets Use a twitter feeder. But make sure your last page of tweets look pretty normal with out urls in them. You do this now because you have no followers. thus no one to annoy with your tweets.
Step 4: Get followers. These aren't your audience but just followers to make you look popular.

I gave you the lists in text form so that you can import the lists using twitter friend adder pro or hummingbird. You can buy or pirate these but I won't help with that.
List one is the top 200 twitter users. there are a bunch of techniques out there about following and unfollowing this list. Just follow once. Refollowing will get you hammered. It works because it gets you to the top of these users followers and bot and people enthused about the celebrity will see you there and follow you.
List two
This is a list of users with 10,000 plus followers who will autofollow back.
Each of these is an almost guaranteed follow back.
You follow both these lists. Then you wait. In Less than a day you should have 400 + followers.
Step 5: Now you start following an audience in hopes of being followed back. Use the Add from Search option in either tfap or humming bird. Thinking of keywords that our customer might use. Follow until you are following 2000 people or so. Then wait a day or two. Let the people follow you. The remove all friends that aren't following you. Don't unfollow your followers, they will unfollow you. Rinse and repeat until you have 2000 plus followers. then you can follow more aggressively.
Step 6: Talk to your followers. Don't spend endless time but look at responses to your posts and fire back with whatever pops into your head.
Step 7: Don't blast them with links. Try to make most posts either unrelated or just chatty. Add you urls not as adverts but as recommendations.
Step 8: Go to the Moretweets thread in BHW and join up. Its a tweet exchange program. You tweet and people tweet your stuff in return. Avoid the more spammy exchanges, and avoid being spammy yourself. This whole method is based on not being annoying to your followers, first so that they don't unfollow you and second so that they actually listen to you.
