How to sell your software through an affiliate network

My company is about to release a social networking software. I have ZERO experience with affiliate networks. What should I do? It is a great product, so marketers are gonna sell it easily. We are going to have press coverage and a good marketing campaign.

Should we have our own referral system? Should we go through a network? Or more than one?
