How to rank better than this site?

Another question: Should I build links rather to my home page or to inner pages? Each of the 40 target keywords has an own landing page focusing this keyword with a 1k words SEO article.

I'd have a mix to be honest. It would look unnatural if all of your links were pointing to the home page.
Also, for the pages that are sitting higher in the serps I would work on them first since it should be easier to rank them. Depending on the content you've got on your site I would also do a bit of interlinking. If one of your pages is on page two, and the other is on 6 and they're related to each other, it would make sense to link them up.
With regards to guides, there's a lot of great ones on here. @davids355 did a great guide not that long ago, and @t0mmy is always battering out the high quality content.
Also, how well optimised are the pages in terms of relevancy?
