Hello
I am very new to seo and dont know what i am doing.
well i checked the backlinks for a very successful seo company and they are all useless sites like link directories (link farms). i thought link farms are a big no-no?
and when i try to add my link to some of these sites, they require a reciprocal link. but i dont want to make my site look ugly or come under goog's suspicion for malicious content.
so i thought maybe i could sign up with a free host and pout the reciprocal links there?
but then i thought goog is not that stupid and they will see through this.
so i dont know what to do. i dont want to do anything too blackhat that would get my site banned, just need some links.
I have been commenting on some articles but those are all nofolw.
I have been putting my site in my profile in some forums and then pinging the profiles, that also didnt help.
I also read on this site link wheels help a lot, so i tried to write some unique articles and post them on article sites, but then later on i read on this very site that link wheels are bad.

I am just tired of investing so much time doing something and then like a week later finding out that what i spent so much time on was useless and i should have done this other thing.

I guess i am just lost because i am getting flooded with information and dont know which to believe. what is a good way to build some links and improve my ranking?

those links must be from your domain, not from another domain, host, ect. You could make a "links" page and put their links there.

I am going to post a step by step method on a manual reciprocal linking tomorrow. Hope it will help you. Can't do the post right now i have to go and i am in a hurry. ;)

I have posted one now. YOu can see it on the Forums. Cheers man.

Its a loosers game to do reproc linking with seo-firms directories. If you see them to a seo firm its either totally free or they own it, and will build its authority with your link. you should (possibly) reproc on a middleman site that link to them and to you, if you got the energy to set it up.

I have read some different opinions of reciprocal linking (some say it still works, some say it no longer works while others say it can even hurt your ranking).

What are your opinions on reciprocal link building? Can reciprocal link building really hurt your ranking, even if the sites you link to are similar to yours?
