Just incase anyone here can help, i have been looking for a way to eliminate the 'category' in my permalink structure...rather than have a "category/categoryname" i want to modify it to show only category name..
already used /%category%/%postname%/

The reason for this is, am using a silo seo plugin from network empire that creates top level silos(categories) and when i visit the pages on wordpress i can find this category pages as normal pages.

I added content to the page but when a user visits the page from the main menu it displays "category/category name" which is an empty page for now but when the category is removed and only "category name" is left the permalink the content shows up... so i was wondering how possible it is to remove the category from the permalink so i can have only the category name in the permalink...

And is it also possible to post in those categories without them showing up in the category page? As i would like to manually place a list of articles in the category randomly through out the article..

I Have seen other site with this structure and i really want to emulate the way this is done....
An example of the permalink structure am trying to get would look like this..
Fashion/Men-fashion/best-male-sandal.(each of the two category pages(fashion and men-fashion) have full formatted articles in them.

This what you are looking for?

Plug in - Remove Category URL

This plugin removes '/category' from your category permalinks. (e.g. `/category/my-category/` to `/my-category/`)

Thanks BTB.... after all the ranting i did you just bailed me out within seconds....
Thanks for the continuous support bro.

Also Wordpress SEO (Yoast) has that feature. If you already have it (which i think you should) you can use that feature without installing additional plugins.

This has gotten ugly...:D after removing the "category" in the permalink, the content has suddenly disappeared... i can edit from the back-end but i find an archive page on the front end...

If you don't mind BTB i can quickly shoot you a PM with the link and also the example link too..

Bump!!! anyone know how the last problem could be solved?
Google aint helping matters either..

As i told you, give a try to YOAST. The setting is on: Advanced>Permalinks>First Check Box

"Strip the category base (usually /category/) from the category URL."

Remove the plugin you installed first, because maybe they dont work together.

I did as you advised and i got the url working correctly.. but the content i had on the category has dissapeared.
removing the category slug from the url removes the content but once i revert back to the original url format the content shows up..

cleared my browser cookies but still getting the same error..

How do you add your content to the categories? Do you add it from any theme option or from the native Category Description of wordpress?

I used a silo plugin from network empire, it added my top level silos as category and also as pages(there appeared both in category section and also in the pages section). the content was added to the pages section.
