There is a website that is ranking #1 for a very competitive keyword. I won't reveal the keyword, but let's just say it's something like "seo services CITY"
Checked their backlinks and they are mostly coming from .ru domains. Does this mean they are using sape?
Now the funny thing is that when you go to those .ru domains and view source, the SEO guy's link does not appear at all. I dont understand this? How is this possible?

It probably just means the website owner (from the SAPE network) just got scared because of the recent SAPE scare, and removed the link so it's no longer there.

That means those links were already removed. Links checkers are soo slow.

That would be a monthly bases Russian link network and the owner of website is not be paying the network and they removed his links but there are still in Google cache.

May be they are ranking because they removed Sape links and built other kind of links?

SAPE links are never hidden. They could be same color as the background of the page, or the font size is 3px, but they are never hidden.
Did you check the source of the page to see if the links are hidden?

Looks like your competitor links....

....puts on sunglasses....

...have diSAPEared.
