How to have top posts on wordpress homepage based on ratings?

So I'm looking at something like familytron dot com or marriedbiography dot com.
Family tron has posts ranked by recently added which is simple, they also have posts sorted by number of ratings.
On the other hand famousbirthdays dot com shows celebs who have their birthday's today.
Is there a theme or plugin these sites use to do that that you guys know of?
