Thanks ShadowD for explaining a solution. Yes, I forgot to mention that you must have the iTunes iPhone drivers installed before you go about doing this.

Has anybody tested with the most recent firmware update? I've been waiting to upgrade

Guys, if you upgraded your iphone to 3.1 firmware from 3.0.1, this wont work. BUT! You can revert back to previous firmware-- takes a couple minutes, but worked perfectly for me. But please please please remember to back up all your contacts, pictures, etc- because everything gets erased. It happened to me. Sad face. Has anyone tried this in the past couple days? I can't seem to get it to work. When I tap the tethering option under settings>network it says "to enable tethering on this acct, contact att"
