How to Get Fresh IPs on your Computer, through iPhone 3G/3GS Tethering Without Having to Jailbreak

Setup Time:
Initial Setup (one time): 10-15 minutes
IP Switching: 1-2 minutes for each IP

Warning: If you don?t have an unlimited data plan I wouldn?t recommend doing this. You?ve been warned!

This is a thread for all of you black hatters who use the iPhone 3G/3GS and are looking for another way to get fresh IPs on your computer without paying for them. This method could be closely compared to using an aircard or wireless 3G card since you?re using the 3G network to get the IPs.

This method works with both non-jailbroken and jailbroken iPhones. I have been doing this for 4 months, pretty much daily, and have not once received a call from my carrier or received a bill with additional charges(I have unlimited data plan).

Note: ONLY tested on Windows XP, I have heard of issues when trying this on Vista and Win7 but i'm sure there's a way to do it (use Google)

Getting Started, these steps will only have to be done once:

Step 1: Install Your MobileConfig

1. Grab you iPhone 3G/3GS
2. Tap Safari and type in:
Code:
http://help.benm.at
3. Scroll down to ?Tethering & Internet Settings?
4. Tap Mobileconfigs download >
5. Select your Country from the list
6. Select your carrier
7. Tap ?Install?
8. Let the iPhone do it?s thing for a few minutes, after it?s finished, reboot your phone.

Step 2: Enable Tethering

1. Go to Settings>General>Network
2. Tap ?Internet Tethering?
3. If it?s not on, tap it to the on postion
4. Take note of the instructions on the internet tethering page

Step 3: Tether your iPhone to your computer for the first time

1. USB
a. Plug in the USB connector to your computer
b. Let windows do it?s thing and install drivers automatically
c. In XP: Go to Control Panel>Network Connections
d. Disable your current network adapter
e. You should now see a new network adapter called ?Apple Mobile Device Ethernet?
f. Test your connection

2. Bluetooth
a. This requires your computer to have a Bluetooth receiver
b. First, ensure that Bluetooth pairing is enabled on your Bluetooth adapter (on your computer)
c. Go to Settings>General>Bluetooth
d. Switch bluetooth to ?On? if it is not already
e. Tap your computer name in the list below the Bluetooth on switch
f. Go to your Bluetooth settings on your computer and select your phone
g. Type in a 5 digit number on your computer when prompted
h. Type in the same 5 digit number on your iPhone when prompted
i. Test your connection

OK, now that?s all setup you are ready to start switching IPs like a mad man

Step 4: How to change your IP

This works for both Bluetooth and USB Tethering

1. Go to Settings>General>Network
2. Switch ?Enable 3G? to OFF
3. Wait 5 seconds
4. Switch ?Enable 3G? to ON
5. Wait 20-50 seconds and check your IP :)

REMEMBER: This only works if you have an iPhone 3G or 3GS with a 3G connection. It will work on the Edge connection, but the edge connection is as slow as dial-up. 3G Connection i get about 180kbps average download speed.

I hope you guys find this useful. It has worked out well for me and after taking so much from BHW, this is my try at giving back!

P.S. Post in this thread if you have problems, I have pretty much seen them all (limited to XP of course)

You're the first one to finally post this. I've been doing this for a while myself, good share.

haha! I just discovered this trick today and then you write it here! awesome! I like it - My iphone now works as my mobile phone, ipod, mobile internet conncetion and blackhat tool! sweeeeeeeeet

Now, I'm affraid to ask, but ... are this IP's good for CL? :D (regardless of the answer I'm gonna move my lazy ass and try it tonight). I've been thinking about the possibility before and thanks for the tutorial

They will all most likely be softblocked.

The awesome thing is that last night, we just got 3G in my area. It finally doesn't take 60 seconds just to load a single page! :-)

haverhill: Post your specs and I'll see if I can figure out the issue:

iPhone make: 2G - 3G - 3GS
Firmware Version: outdated? 3.0? 3.1?
Signal type: Edge, 3G

Update on Windows Vista and 7

I just upgraded to Windows 7 and wanted to confirm that tethering is working fine with no modifications necessary. Just make sure you have iTunes installed (for drivers) and it should work just as it does with XP.

Haverhill: Your firmware is outdated

You need to:

Install itunes (if you haven't already)
Download the iPhone firmware 3.x

-this should fix your problem.

ok... so this works GREAT! My question is, what does it mean "unlimited data plan" I mean, I signed up for AT&T in the US with my iphone about 1 1/2 years ago when the 3G was new. They charge me an extra like $30 a month just for the iphone plan, does that mean unlimited date, or is this something new(er). Do they know you are tethering, or is this like a hack job type thing that appears to your carrier that you are browsing from your phone?

I am also on Windows 7 and had no problems at all.

Yes, this is the unlimited data plan from AT&T, that's about the same time I got my iphone.

To answer your second question: I actually used this as my primary internet connection back in July, I moved and it took the cable company(guess who?) 3 weeks to get the cable dug and laid so I needed emergency internet and that's when I figured out how to do this.

I used the iPhone 3G internet tethering 8-10 hours/day, 5 days a week, for 3 weeks. So that's at least 120 hours of use right there, with heavy internet browsing going on. I had a funny feeling I was going to get a big bill in the mail, but nothing, my bill stayed the same. Since then I've used consistently at least 2 hours a day for 4 months without any extra charges, or calls from AT&T. So my best guess is that it just appears you are browsing from your phone. I wouldn't go so far as to download torrents, but you probably can.

Same here. I use my iPhone as a wireless internet card for my laptop when I'm not home. And I've also been using it for blackhat purposes for a couple months. I have never heard of anybody being billed anything extra, but att can probably has the right to, if they can find out you're doing it.

Awesome! I have been struggling for 2 weeks with my shitty wifi and getting very frustrated... I cant afford internet anymore and have been stealing my neighbors buts its very bad signal. I even went so far as to hack the wep key of another neighbor who's signal always seems real strong, but it never seems to have internet access:/ anyway, so I'll be using this alot! Thanks!
