[How To] Get Started with Websites for Noobs

I must have posted the same basic thing on a dozen different threads. People always want to know how to make their first $1000 when they should be concentrating on making their first $1. Or better yet, just how to start a website. Hopefully this guide will help some people who are starting off and are confused on how to proceed. Your first project should be a learning experience. So these steps are highlighting how to set up a practice site and get the hang of it, so you can edit these steps to make your money making site extremely profitable.

Step#1 - Find a niche.
Pick a niche that is large enough for some searches, and you can rank in. What I mean by that is don't try picking an insurance or IM niche, you will find it really hard to rank. At the same time, the niche has to have some searches every month. (Don't worry too much about profitability as this is a practice site)

Step#2 - Writing Articles.
Build a Wordpress blog, learn all of its features, and write approximately 2 good quality articles a day and submit them to your site. Read other posts in this forum about proper keyword and tag building. This step provides you with quality and quantity, both of which G loves.

Step#3 - Building Trust.
In each of your articles, link out to an authority site that will not affect your revenue: Such as Wikipedia. This will help build "Trust" in G's eyes.

Step#4 - Becoming an Authority.
Write approximately 10 related articles and post them on sites like Articlebase, Goarticles, Ezine and similar with a link to an individual page AND a link to your homepage in the author box. This will help establish you as an authority in your niche. (A little boost in rank basically)

Step#5 - Raising Alexa Rank.
Use Alexa Boosters and Auto Surf Sites to make your Alexa rank go up so you can get better G ads. (Don't even get started on auto surf sites; they do work and Alexa doesn't care where the traffic comes from. Since they are not clicking on ads, G doesn't care either.)

Step#6 - Building Links.
Using Scrapebox, spam some related links to all of the articles you submitted to the authority sites. Then do some MANUAL link building on your site. Contribute to related forums with a link in your signature, comment on related blogs, ext... You want your site to appear as white hat as possible.

Step#7 - Viral Marketing.
Learn how to use twitter, FB, myspace, ext... and get some friends and start getting your sites name out there. You can also upload some video's from youtube and in the description send them to your site for an article on it, review or something similar. (It is easy to "borrow" other peoples youtube video's and upload them yourself - just search the forums.)

*Remember that this is just a PRACTICE SITE. Yes, it will take quite a bit of work, but it is a learning experience that will make future websites much more successful. Work on this site for 2-3 months then FORGET IT. Leave the website sit, forget about adding content or promoting it then start your new site with your real money making idea.

Oh yes, the practice site that I made: I didn't make any money the entire time I was working on it. Now it is making roughly $10 a month from adsense, LOL. That $10 is more encouraging to me than the thousands I make with other sites. Just shows me just how far I have come and how far I could go. Don't give up fellow Black Hatters!

This is exactly the post I needed as I started with my very first projekt about 3 days ago and did not really have an idea what to do (except for writing 2 articels and building some manuel backlinks so far) and you gave me some inspiration how to go on

Sorry for the late reply, have been working on a few large projects atm.

@ampit if you are having problems with traffic you should definitely move to a smaller niche and continue link building. If you are in a large niche then the pro black hatters are going to completely dominate the niche and take all of the traffic.

Also make sure you continue link building! it is crucial to get to the top of the big G and stay there, if you can secure a spot on the first page (Preferably the top 3) your incoming traffic should skyrocket.

Keep your content to the point and also make them read well.
Again go through your articles or blog posts to help make sure they sound Ok, Implementing engaging elements for example lists or perhaps bold tags to keep visitor and capture attention. Where it is doable insert appropriate images to brake up your article.

Ah, thank you very much RyanRRR, I knew I would forget something or another, lol.

As to @samsh = Auto surf sites will not get you banned, unfortunately the big G can tell if they are real, the point of auto surf sites is to trick Alexa, not so much the big G.

As long as you don't sign up to sites that will click on ads for you, you will be fine.

A little update for my practice site: I am now making $20 a day with 10 minutes a day of work, ranking top for more keywords and traffic just about doubles every month!

That is a very difficult question to answer. I'll give it my best though.

1# -
Go to G adwords and search for the keywords you wish to target, make sure the broad/exact matches are something you are comfortable with. (hard to tell you whats good for you, have to play around)
-With this, however, you need a small enough number to be able to rank decently, and a large enough number to get enough traffic to sustain your website.

2# -
Go to the big G and type in your keyword, see how many matches come up, do the same thing with your keywords in quotes like "Acai Berry" (dont target that one)
- See if you can handle how many webpages are targeting your keyword. (can't give you an exact number)

The main reason it is so hard to answer that question is because you can't know how much work each individual webmaster has put into their site. The biggest tip is don't try doing a new release product or extremely well known product, like Ipad. As you will find it almost impossible to rank in.

Remember that the more searches, the more webpages, and the more profit available in the niche will increase the work on your part in order for the website to take off.

How did get from $10/month to $20/day? Is there a mistake, or..?

Very nice post! I know a way of getting much traffic. I just need to create the site, but a need hosting. Do you have any tip for cheap or free hosting? I don't have much money.
