Are you looking for high PR, or will anything go? Do you want automatic links or manual comments? Yur question was a bit vague.

One method is to allow your blog posts to be syndicated. Put a page up on your site that let's people know they can republish your blog posts as long as they reference and link to the original article.

Generally search engines index forums so posting forums and blogs is also a way to get quality backlinks with the anchor text you want. If the forum or blog is a respected one, a backlink is valuable.
If you are serious about your Web presence, getting listed in directories like DMOZ and Yahoo. This ia a way to get some quality backlinks for free.

Easy. If you google it, you will find dozens of ways for you to start generating backlinks. Then you will overwhelmed with a million + 1 things to do... Go for a short cut instead...

Quantity of links alone will not get you high rankings.

First question - Why do you want backlinks?? If it is to bring your site to the first page of Google, you need to know that backlinks aren't going to work by themselves!

This is good advice. If you are looking for backlinks that produce traffic, go to related sites and ask them to do quick blurbs about you. If you are looking for backlinks for SEO purposes to get SERP for certain keywords, then the strategy is altogether difference.

Its easier than u think. Get excellent posts for your blog then propose them to good pr blogs in your niche. They often take it and give you credit.

Find expired domains that have high PR. dropday.com is one good place to find these. Get hosting that allows you to have a different C-Class IP address for each site aseohosting.com. Host the site with fake registration info. Have articles written with your specific niche in mind textbroker.com. Post the articles with contextual backlinks to anything you want. Rinse and repeat. Your own private blog network!
