As Google is getting smarter and smarter, many of our old ways of doing SEO are becoming obsolete. Things are getting a lot more focused on quality and a lot less on quantity, and that's a fact. If you think caring about keyword densities is gonna keep you in the game for long, you're wrong. It won't be long until everyone realizes that density will be somewhere next to EMDs on the list of irrelevant SEO shit.
Google no longer cares how many times you mention a word on your page. It now tries to understand what they're about in order to show to most relevant results. This is why keyword relevance is important and plays a major role nowadays; and not many of us are actually figuring that out.
Anyway, a couple months ago a friend introduced me to a tool called TextOptimizer that he saw on a banner on BHW somewhere (I'm in no way affiliated to them, and have never even paid to use their service). I found the thread the creator @fmartin made back in February https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/beta-tester-textoptimizer.917020/
He really should have gotten a lot more attention than he did. I'm definitely not an expert in this, so to quote him, this tool "produces SEO redactional recos, based on semantic analysis. Basically, the tool extracts intent tables from SE results, and measures related topics in your text."
Long story short, after a couple months of using it, my understanding of it is that is scans the top results and creates a list of common terms that appear, while comparing your page/text to them. It then gives you the terms that the top results have and you don't - making them relevant, and your site irrelevant.
Anyway, I was pretty hesitant that it would do anything but decided to give it a shot. So, I went ahead and dug up one of my old high-commission CPA offer sites that was dyeing out. I put the URL into textoptimizer, and my optimization score was somewhere right under 50% if I remember correctly. I probably spent like an hour playing with that bitch and got it up to 96% (it woudn't go to 100 for some reason).
Here's the twist - don't fucking wait for indexing. I found the WMT account I used for this site and went ahead to fetch the page right away. Both of these keywords are targeted on the homepage. I clicked Fetch and Render, requested indexing and left it. I checked back a few hours later, updated the ranks on SerpBook and saw this:
Dug up that picture from a gyazo I shared with my friend just to brag about the results. All I did was add a couple dozen words to the page, wherever it made sense to do so, and then requested indexing. It isn't rocket science. The 32 spot rise eventually went back down a couple days later, but it was still 10 spots or so higher than it initially was. You may need to wait longer to actually see results though, the indexing thing doesn't always work within hours.
This is a SUPER competitive niche and I put a lot of money in links for this site back in the day. It made profit then, but I eventually started working on other projects and abandoned this one. By optimizing the text and then requesting indexing though, it is certain that this site's ranks improved JUST because of this. They're still around there actually, dancing a couple of spots up and down.
My guess is that this looks a lot more natural to Google - it just makes sense that someone who actually gives a shit about what they're writing and genuinely tris to help the reader out will rank better. Only thing is, blackhatters can obviously also optimize for that in order to fake that natural relevancy.
This may be old news to some, but it was definitely new to me when I first tried it. It still works quite well. No SEO plugin will tell you how to optimize for something like this, so you might want to give it a try
