How to format a HDD so data cant be recover?

Formating once, or a dozen times, does little to nothing. Formating zeros the first bit of some length of data, leaving the remaining data intact.

Read my post carefully i said there are "software's".
Not talking about normal formatting - there are tools for wiping HDD data completely.

Use the boot image “DBAN”

That’s your best bet for wiping the data, even though it can still be recovered big G and other data centers just destroy old drives, as it is the only way to 100% prevent the data from being accessed.

Yeap used in in government works a treat, HP use it for selling off company laptops at auctions.

I read your post very carefully. Slowly. Several times (6, to be exact.) I counted the number of words, the number of sentences, and tallied up the number of punctuation marks. Then I made a graph of all of these, and sent it off to a local lab for analysis. The analysis came back, and it confirmed my original findings. You don't know what you are talking about, you used the word "erase" instead of the correct word "wipe", and the formatting "mulitiple times" is equally meaningless the 2nd time as it was the first. However, I get the sense that you are a very strong-willed person and are willing to pay when you know you are right, in order to prove that you are right. So, in the spirit of collegiality, and in true BHW tradition, I am willing to perform a 3rd analysis, which will likely result in your favor, for the nominal fee of $100.00. I can provide a full, written report, attractively arranged and personalized so that you can have it framed, and hang it on the wall behind your desk. High-quality vellum parchment is also available for an additional fee.

Boot up from a linux live usb and on a virtual/graphical terminal run:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=1M status=progress

If you want to overwrite the disk with random data instead of zeroing it, run:
dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sdX bs=1M status=progress

Where X is the letter corresponding to your drive.
You can run lsblk or df -h to get and idea of which drive is the one you want to target.

Also, for SSDs disks you should also take a look at the "blkdiscard /dev/sdX" command.

Just drill 4 holes into the drive......on the edges of the round center of the disk

Reading and understanding are 2 different things. If you didn't catch on from the first post i made it clear in the second one.
All those analysis time and money gone to waste. But i guess you have plenty of both. :smirk:

Install windows>install linux x2>install windows and that's it, make sure you format the hdd every time you install.

If I had really sensitive information on my HDD I would never sell it. Happened to me only once. Solved it by breaking off a few random components, ran a magnet over it multiple times and soaked it in the water for ten minutes. IMHO no information can be recovered.

If you have really sensitive information, it's not worth selling it. Better to destroy it and sleep peacefully :)
