hell no.. I mean just link:site.com (witout quote) and it's not working

edit: I think, link:site.com can't use with google.com. when I use google in local it works. How about you?

learned some new tips, thanks OP

the link checker addon works regardless of any changes google makes. IME yahoo has less things indexed slower then google, but you still get plenty of thousands of backlinks to use.

i like how this method gives you high PR posts on high PR domains, and generally pretty relavant to your topic. double layer of link juice :)

Remember that you just have to do it once and then reuse all your findings on your new sites.

If you want to save yourself some time, it might be a good idea to add "comment" as a footprint when searching for backlinks (comment link:domain.com/url/) to filter out all pages without comments. Will save you a lot of time if one of the sites build backlinks with forum profiles.

You say it with such ease. Yeah, I agree that it does take roughly a few hours to filter out high PR, do follow blogs that allows commenting. I can tell you from personal experience that barely 1% or even less are AA and most of them have tons of comments in queue waiting for moderation, being spammed by SB from huge lists. Heck I could find 1000 high PR blogs but how many of them would go through the sea of spam to approve yours? It is still possible to do what you said above, but it would be a monumental waste of time to do so, as at the end of the day, you'll see barely any of your comments made it. As the OP said though, a high PR link is always more valuable than thousands of low quality ones, so it's basically a time and luck thing if you want to play this game.
 
This method looks great because I recently scraped a list of high PR blogs to comment on, and had about 1500, but only about 20 of them were do-follow!

I'd love to follow this but don't understand how to do this step "4) Find backlinks for all of their pages (link:domain.com/url/)"

Once I've found my competitors link, they end up in the URL's Harvested list, how do I then find their backlinks from there?

That's insane! Better pay $20-50 to a coder to make you a script to do that automatically.
