This is a short and simple guide for those of you who are looking to filter spam on a Wordpress website without using a plugin. I've been using this feature for about a month with one of my websites and I went from getting hundreds of spam comments each days when I first started using it to only 1 or 2 (sometimes none at all!).
If you're wondering what you should use in your comment blacklist, here are some words that would frequently appear in the spam comments that I used to receive:

- Log in to your Wordpress dashboard
- Go to your settings
- Go To "Discussion"
- Scroll down until you see "Comment Blacklist"
- Enter the words that frequently appear in your comments (make sure they aren't common words like "hello").
- Save your changes
