According to these figures. They have a total of 84,480 IP address, across different A, B & C classes, that is more than enough diversity for me.

As someone who owns and builds a lot if networks, I'll be doing some tests with this!

I never said that 13 c-classes mean only 13 ips but as a matter of fact still they have only 13 c-classes even if there are hundreds of ips per c-class.

Your and my definition of a C-class must differ, as I see far more than 13 C-classes there? If we are talking about a single C-class, this is for example 204.93.240.* - A single C-class contains 256(254 useable) IPs. A class-c block can also be shown as /24.

To get a bit more technical, if there are 84,480 IPs here divided by 256 (a class C block) there are exactly 330 class-c blocks here across different ranges. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong!

Apologizes you are right. I didn't notice the /24 /20 /18 etc after the ips. This widens the c-classes range a lot.

On another side I added a domain to cloudflare. I got an ip that is shared with 182 other domains (which is good) and they gave me 2 different name servers from 2 different c-classes that are different than the ip of the domain itself which is all good so far but there are 2 things that may be a footprint.


1- Hostmaster E-mail address: dns.cloudflare.com which is supposedly fixed for all the domains in cloudflare (please someone confirm if this is right or not). use intodns.com to check the part that says

The SOA record is:

And see which hostmaster email is there.

2- MX records show the original ip of the server hosting the websites.

Using intodns.com report check

Your MX records that were reported by your nameservers are:

And confirm if the ip showing there is the server's ip or cloudflare's ip. But since MX records are used for emails and blogs in blog network can live without an email address so this record can be deleted at all or someone can shed some light on how to fake this.


$5/mo per domain is not cheap for the purpose of getting unique ip for a blog network specially with those 2 footprints (which we can discuss to get over) but the good thing about cloudflare ips is that they set you aside from the seo hosting ips known to google.

Yes, the major footprint will be that all your domains will appear to come from the cloudflare network, as displayed by the SOA record and the rest of the whois details. However I don't see this as a major problem, since hundreds of thousand of websites are already using this technology, it looks legit.

As far as I know MX records can just be deleted leaving no footprint?

Also $5 per domain, not sure why you are paying that? I'm getting all this for free!
 
What about the nameservers? I added a couple of domains to my cloudflare account and it looks like they use the same nameservers. This surely is a footprint isn't it? Unless cloudflare uses the same nameservers across all sites...

Would signing up with a different email address give different nameservers?
 
Very good idea.

However I feel I must point out that I have a theory that google likes nameservers and IP addresses NOT to change very often.
I have seen my own website rankings (example.com) go up after settingsprivate nameservers (ns1.example.com), change the nameservers and then rankings drop.

So do get private nameservers and stick with them, dont keep changing them.
 
Great suggestion! Just don't create MX records or sub domains like ftp, mail, cpanel pointing to your hosting ip. Also when you buy domain, change DNS to cloudflare immediately (so your original hosting ip doesn't end up in some ip history logs) and enable cflare for all sub domains.
 
Don't buy hosting from one Hosting provider better buy cheap hosting from some hosting forums such as webhosting talks. It will diversify your hosting IP address and also will not keep any footprint.
 
So what's your opinion about NS footprint? It could be a problem? I would like to use cloudflare for all money sites but the NS issue makes me hesitant
 
As much as like cloudflare ( and i do , i have some sites on them ..including HireMyGuy )
the free version is really not worth a damm .. unless you are a paying customer .. be prepared to get "host not available" or something like that a lot
just my opinion.
and as far as ns ..you can add many name servers to any of the domain guys .. shoutout here to namesilo ..love those guys.

Diversity is in D classes. Not A, B and C's
read carefully.

Only 13 C classes 84,000 D classes

10 A classes and 11 B classes.

Your definition of C class is a D class. Worthless for SEO hosting purpose.

aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd

ccc needs to be different for it to be good for SEO hosting.

If using ns from cloudflare for all of your blog network. It could be a foot print. Better using hosting that physical server spread in multiple location with different nameserver.
