This might not be new but it's certainly worthy. I use this completely legit method to get many do-follow backlinks from .edu and .gov websites.

The method I am talking about is developing Open Source software and making it available for free download. You can insert a small backlink say "Powerd by YOURSITE" to your website. I agree most webmasters just remove the link but I have seen these .gov and .edu sites are maintained by not so mean webmasters and they do keep the backlink in place.

So go ahead and choose a popular CMS, find a commercial product which is selling hot. Develop an open source alternative and upload it in popular download sites. Within weeks you will see quality backlinks :)

Hope this helps someone !

I could see this method working with something as simple as a wordpress theme and targeting smaller .edu domains. Thanks for the tip.

Yes, you can also develop things targeted at students, like WP themes for students blogs or small open source academic oriented programs (like improve your memory practicing programs).

You will develop open source software to get backlinks?

It is like digging for diamonds just to build an ordinary wall.

There is a difference between profile/comment/student blog post .edu link and between aged page with PR that links to you...

building an open source solution for a backlink....wow - not what i came into this thread to hear...moving along

Hey bro,do you think develop a open source is so easy ? If any one make a good open source why he needs backlinks. By web design he can earn minimum $2000 per month.
