I'm looking for some input on some key points to building an authority site.

My understanding so far:

1. Need a broad niche ex. Fitness

2. Cover various topics within the niche ex. Categories - weight loss, diets, exercises etc...

3. Use unique well written content targeting long tail KWs within the niche/category.

4. Post often, every other or evey few days.

5. Internally link all articles.

6. SEO all articles - would love a sort of blueprint on this one as I'm going to outsource this but not sure exactly what to request or teach them to do. Amount of links, type and how often?

Any other input on something I missed would be helpful.

it takes time, and allot more. than what you have listed.

dont forget socail media marketing, backlinks from other authority websites.

pr releases & video.

sorry dont have time to give more info.

Anybody else have more time to give more info?

Reason is I was looking at getting into the micro niche scene for extra income but seems like for better long term consistent income creating a large "authority site" is the way to go.

I have an authority site and I can tell you you do not need a lot of what people tell you that you will need. For example, social media, forget that time consuming crap, it's here today gone tomorrow.

What you do need is a busy site and lots of unique content regularly refreshed.

By busy, I mean, regular updates, and regular contributions from visitors, ie. forum.

Lot's a natural backlinks with a good range of PR.

That's what worked for me, YMMV.

ROCKY can you give me some details on your link building and fresh content frequency?

How often do you post new content?

How do you link build for the new content?

After the initial link building per article do you just move on the new fresh content or is there a system in which you continuously build links to all your content old and new?

Is your homepage static?

How often do you post new content?

Short news type items, probably about 5-10 a week.

How do you link build for the new content?

I don't I let it happen naturally. Post unqie stuff, be inventive, and other sites will link to you. You can promote that kind of link action by posting in other forums (not spamming) and every so often write up something unique, make something for download, or produce something that other sites would link to.

After the initial link building per article do you just move on the new fresh content or is there a system in which you continuously build links to all your content old and new?

As above. I have no offsite link building strategy other than to let it happen naturally and let other sites in same niche know when I have something new.

Is your homepage static?

No, it gets several updates a week.
