How much time do you take off for Christmas?

I never stop working even on holiday. I find myself responding to customer seven from my phone whilst I am on holiday. It's a bad habit but when you work for yourself you have to take care of business.

I'm not much of a holiday dude and already don't work on the weekends so I don't really take any extra days off
for me, the holiday season is for spending more time with the kids...

omg

I get 10 days off from my 9 - 5, which is nice. In terms of IM, I reduce my hours about 50% because 1) my girlfriend will kill me if I work on my vacation and 2) most of the people I outsource to take time off. I'm going to take these next 10 days to do basic site cleanup and such.

Edit: I still try my best to respond to all of my contractors within 15 minutes, but that's not always feasible

I'll be out of the office for roughly a week. From the 22nd to the 29th december.
Still checking up, making sure the operation is running like a mfo but ain't doing more than that.

From 31st to January 10th. That is going to be our big fat holiday.

When it comes to my business, no, I quite like my schedule and my clients like being able to always reach me as well. Monday through Thursday, half of Friday, almost no exceptions. This includes holidays, weekends, my birthday (I don't even celebrate this one), and other special events that I don't let interrupt my routine. Emergencies are clearly the exception.

I can take a long break if I wanted to (and I have; remember my wrist surgery?), though since I'm planning on moving to Arizona early in 2017, I need all of the extra money I can get.

As far as BHW is concerned, spammers don't take a break, so why should I (all right, I'm exaggerating a bit on this one)? Hey, but ask yourself: do you really want to see the forum filled with this for the next week?

Christmas Day, I usually try to stay off the computer and try not to think about business but nearly always fail.
Do take it a little easier but still can't help myself.
The good thing about taking a break, it gives a little time for the brain to rest and that's when some great ideas usually come to me.

Damn it, I failed, I couldn't resist.

Anyway Merry Xmas everybody ... going to have a drink and stuff my face!

If I take time off, it's bc I want to, and not bc a holiday is coming up.

That said, I am putting one project on hold while I'm setting up three more.

@nikchaing Stop being adorable. It's awkward and weird.

Even when I'm trying not to work, really I'm still actually working. I find myself checking things on my mobile and learning new things, I find it real hard to disassociate myself if I'm honest.

I guess it comes from habit and if I'm honest, because frankly I love working for myself and reading and learning about new methods constantly.

Thankfully my wife understands my mindset, I get away with it most the time. Don't get me wrong I ensure I spend time with my family and loved ones, but putting the phone down is hard sometimes.

I'm never really completely switched off so I have lots of ideas floating around but I tend to take the same holidays as the kids have off school. Family life always comes first for me so the coding can wait. I work to live and the screen break refreshes the mind and reinvigorates.

For once I have done nothing on computer today (except making a few posts here of course).

I feel you re the afk inspiration though - 100% all of my biggest problems are solved when I'm not working or taking a break and my sub-conscious just starts working on them :-)
