It seems like every website, even big TV companies and stuff want you to "like" their page.

    Why?

Is it just a dick measuring contest between big companies to see who can get more likes?

Does a Facebook page with 10,000 likes that links to a website pass more linkjuice than a Facebook page with 0 likes that links to a website?

Does a Twitter account with 10,000 followers pass more linkjuice than a Twitter account with 0 followers?

Aside from bragging rights, what are the benefits of having a lot of followers or likes? I'm not talking about having more followers which means you have more people to sell to, I'm talking about only SEO factors.

The answer to all those questions is basically yes. A like is the same as a link, but juice is passed by other social metrics so they're weighted just like links are.

I've been ranking a site on pretty much social shares alone.
Yes the site has good content so the bounce rate is very low however
the more it is shared the more traffic it gets and the higher it climbs.

It's all Google's secret sauce so we can only observe and document and learn but I'm starting to think G had social signals at LUDICRIOUS SPEED-GO! and maybe won't hit the wall as hard as dark helmet did in space balls but they are pumping the shit out of the brakes screaming STOPPppp! Give me a breather to get off the BHW marketplace crack ..

Google definitely likes social media links. The big social media sites are whitelisted against penalties too, so you can backlink spammy links to a FB page that points to your real website and it really helps. It seems to have helped me quite a bit.

Yes, social links can rank sites alone. If lots of people share your stuff, then you're "trending" so Google loves that stuff.

I hadn't even thought of that so I might try linking to my Facebook page that points to one of my sites.

How does Google distinguish between automated likes and real likes? If you get like 10,000 Twitter followers how does Google know if they are real people or if they are fake accounts? Same thing with likes on Facebook.
