How much does Domain Authority matter now?

You should focus on creating high-quality contents and getting backlinks on high authority sites. If you want to rank your website. As for domain authority it doesn't matter much.

While domain authority isn't a direct ranking factor, those links from trusted sources are a positive SEO signal and can definitely help your young site.

The dialog is around how much it even matters after the update. Maybe it's all about page authority or something else now.
As you have also mentioned, DR or DA is just estimation of one of the many factors for ranking, so finding all-satisfactory relativeness in DA/DR and organic ranking is hardly possible before and after the update, Only assumptions and opinions can be shared about it but can't be proved with sufficient data. Moz, ahrefs etc. are trying to replicate how Google calculates the worth of a page and domain but they are far away from the actual estimation as they lack in all points like crawling resources, scale, data handling/processing etc. So these tools don't know the web of the links as Google know, even if they have tried to replicate all the guidelines and information Google has yet disclosed about calculating the worth through backlinks.

How much are you guys seeing your rankings tied to domain authority after the last update?

The reason I'm asking is my start-up's site (4 month old domain) has been getting some high-powered links from the government and media and I'm wondering how much this would matter with organic search in our post-AI update world.

Actually nothing in SEO related to 1 item separately
You need to attention all of SEO matters foe improving your website

DA still matters, but it's not the only thing that affects your website's SEO. It's important to have good content, quality backlinks, and a user-friendly website too.

High quality content and matching search intent is the only thing that matters for new sites, in my experience. The above site has a shitty design, and very basic technical SEO. But i match search intent with high quality content.

As many said, I don't think DA matters the most. Just focus on creating good quality content which help users and HQ backlinks to improve the ranking in SERP.

DR, DA, PA, etc any metrics are just key point to show you that there is something you can analyze at.

High metric can either be manipulated/spam or really have a real strong backlink. You'll need to check it manually.

hint : Due Diligence

DA is not a direct factor in SERP ranking, where DA is a score calculated by a machine learning algorithm that predicts how often Google uses that site in its search results. Improve a site's DA by focusing on creating high-quality content, implementing practical link-building strategies, and optimizing site performance.

I think it matters more than ever.

Just because a lot of the PBNs and expired domain shenanigans are fixated on domain authority for domain sales, linking decisions, and network building doesn't make the importance of domain authority go away.

The main authority after all is supposed to measure just how credible and authoritative a website is.

At that level, it will always have value.

You can always look at your domain authority as some sort of indicator as to how well you're serving your target audience.
