if u want to retire with 3k$ / month , just put ur money and buy a lil flat with 6 resident, ull get conformed money. its better than leaving money in bank na?
 
Multiple yearly expense by number of years you expect to live and you should get the number.

Note: Consider inflation as well.
 
For a good retirement I would say $1.5m to 2m assuming 3%~ ROI above inflation which would only be achieved by high equity investments, or property leasing. Assuming you didn't want to touch your original capital!
 
there must not be a specific amount one can acquire to retire with, make as much as you can to the point where you know you can relax now.

it's impossible to simply retire. an you don't need an exact figure of money to earn. what you need is to create a legacy or a sustainable source of income via investments enough to cover basic, medical and other expenses (tours, fun etc). so i would say build a business, get your house, car and save till you get confirmation you and your source of income will sty afloat without you having to work hard.

Diversified investment portfolio as well as real estate would be the best bet IMO - as well as a business depending on how much money you need. Still talking 7 figures net worth

Depends on where you wanna retire and what life standard you wanna have.
Half of population is living from a dollar a day, so it should be no problem.
If you can make 30 USD a month from IM, you can make yourself a nice cardboard house in a third world country and retire.
 
I could live off $1500 a month with paid off house and car. I think this how most americans do it.
