    Hi

i went on a date with this chick in Glasgow and as we walked passed this homless guy sitting in a doorway, she got her purse out and gave him £30, shes not rich just a student,

ive give them a few quid here and there in the past, but i just thought he only needs a few people like her and he could make £60-70 per day, i wonder if some of them really are homeless?

Has anyone here give them more than £30?

just curious to see if anyone else has done similar

There was a field test from a television show where they sent one reporter to pretend he 's homeless for a day and filmed it. He was not supposed to talk, he just had a sign and sat there. After they finished this, they asked on air the reported about the experience and he said he was seriously considering changing career. ;)

30 pounds oh my god. That's pretty enough. In Russia i gave only (in equivalent in pounds) 2-4 pounds and homeless people sayed me: god bless you and they were very happy, to recieve about 2 pounds

I think that's pretty rare, and I really don't think they earn alot - if they did, they'd either be dead (od) or homed.

Some of those guys sitting in doorways on Oxford St make £300/£400 a day.
There was a case where they filmed one guy. At the end of the day he picked up
his blanket and scraggy dog, walked to the car park, got in his reasonably expensive
car (I can't remember what model) and drove to his semi detached house in the
    home counties.
If you think about it, begging on a main thoughfare how many people would throw
you a pound coin a day.
They empty their hat when it becomes too full but they keep the 5 and 10pence coins
in there so people subconsciously think "Oh! someone else has given that means is
    alright for me to".
However is you begging in a small town you would soon run out of benefactors and
I doubt if you would make enough to feed yourself.

great method, now lets scale it up.

We can outsource this to some filipionos and get them imported to our country and pay them couple of $'s per day.

My dad told me a story when I was a kid. When he first moved to America, New York to be exact, he knew this one guy. His job was to be a begger on the street.

He wouldn't shave, and he would drive to the best streets, park his car somewhere, and walk to the intersections with a sign.

My dad told me he bought this new car, and he would tear up his clothes on purpose and stuff..

Some beggars on the street are better off than people working at mcdonalds.

I once saw this doc on Discovery about heroin addicts , and one junkie knew a place where he could easily earn around 100 $ in one hour  . Funny thing was that he immediately spend all the cash on his shot. But imagine if he wouldn't and saved all the money ...

So yeah , a lot of them are fakes I guess and a lot of them make good money

I agree with the posts above, if you pick the right spot, on a main street you could make a LOT of money begging. A lot of the people who sell the Big Issue arent actually homeless, they go back to their bedsits and hostels at the end of a hard day.

Maybe I should start selling the Big Issue hehe

That reminds me of my time when I had just broken up with my ex just before my daughters 3rd birthday.

I was walking up and down Argyll street and Sauchiehall street ( glasgow) myself trying to figure out what to get her.

Getting extremely stressed I capitulated and purchased myself 10 cigs. I lit one coughed, spluttered as I hadn't had one going on 4 years and decided I wasn't smoking another one.

Not wanting to just simply chuck away 9 cigs I thought, I know, I'll give them to one of the Big Issue sellers (homeless people selling magazines to earn a living).

So I made my way and low and behold I came across a big issue seller.

I looked him up and down. I couldn't believe it. He was better dressed than me!. With his new shoes, immaculate clean clothes. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HOMELESS!.

Suffice to say I thought Fuck that and lit up a cig and enjoyed the life of a smoker again!.
