How many mac owners out there?

using duel boot on the mac book pro and keeping the pc at home has always been the best solution i can come up with

I have the ability to use Windows but I absolutely have refused to put that OS onto my Mac whether it be through dual boot or virtualization software. For years I have lived without Windows. I used OSX since it was a baby. It lacked things to be sure but I never had a reason to even consider installing Windows until... I seriously went into affiliate marketing.

I have not given in but I am using Crossover (aka WINE). I may just be stubborn but if I can find a way to work and make money with just my Mac, then I'll live. Seriously though, Windows has all these tools and most of them either look like crap? or are unnecessarily complex. It's my dream to hire a Mac + iPhone team and make the stablest, sexiest, and intuitive SEO program evar! That'll probably cost hundreds of thousands though.

I mean, for what I want to do, it's not going to be a simple task. I want an integrated program/s that will do their work "best". The important part is getting the most basic and fundamental features perfectly down and expanding from there. It's important not to add all these features just to attract a customer. That's called bloat. I see it ALL the time in Windows tools.

There's just so many tools that you have practically pages of them to go through. I want to create a single suite and separate the SEO process into "KW Research" and "Traffic Generation" at the least. Market Samurai is probably one of the best. I mean, it covers a lot of material in one application and is cross-platform. I don't intend to do that for my program, so you Windows users will soon be left to switch or rot in Hell xD

Sorry for the rant.

Mac only, and proud of it... although I have to admit, some stuff would be nice to have. In 90% of the cases I've been able to find a workaround.

OS X on the desktop and FreeBSD on the server. If you do any kind of web development / scripting then you need *nix and OS X is where it's at for a laptop.

I write all my own scripts and don't use any windows software.

don't like macs, so i run win7 with tons of different OSs in wmware

We friends for long time :) If you don't mind, can you share some of these work arounds? For me I just use Crossover to install some Windows programs and find web tools to do some of the work. I have used Market Samurai, Keyword Blueprint, IMEye, SEO BluePrint, Traffic Bug, BackLinkSolutions, Traffic Travis and Blast Bank. For article spinning I just use WAU.

Dude! Why u hattttinnnn?

Imac 27" here.
But I use my toshiba laptop more. Windows is bad but most software are made for it.. Of course, SEO software.
But having an Imac is very good. Its stability and you can watch films in its big screen. Also you can work on photoshop or dreamweaver, or using wordpress in your browser. I recommend it if you can aford it.

I know I'm gonna sound like a cheesy Apple-fanboy, but.. I love my Mac :)

I've had one for several months now and I truly believe that folks that have never used a PC before will learn the Mac 10x faster. It is just as fast (if not faster), has the same functionality as the Windows yet it is so much easier to use.. and dare I say, the graphics are a lot better on the Mac as well. The overall OS feels a lot 'lighter' than W, my 2GB RAM Mac beats any 8GB RAM PC with better processor I've ever had > I know that sounds silly but as an example, I've never had to lookup the Apple keys for CTRL-alt-del on a W.. I think that says it all in terms of experience. It has yet to 'hang' and I'm running a lot of programs at once. Another huge plus is that I don't get bothered with the stupid Windows Firewall, Windows Defender and WTF is 'off', your security risk is high blablabla. Leave me the fuck alone.

I to was worried at first about program compatibility, but the real essential programs are out there in cracked Mac versions as well (another bonus, you don't need Deamon Tools or Alcohol 120% or w/e because mounting is just part of the Mac) :D And even then, you can use Bootcamp to part your Mac with Windows (which is another thing I like about Apple.. I can't see Microsoft ever do that). But seriously there's SOO many talented coders out there, you can get great money-making apps custom-made that are usually cheaper and run better than any similar Windows app that was ever made. I still haven't used Bootcamp and don't have any desire to do so.

The only downside may be that its not that superior gaming machine, for that you still have to heavily mod a PC.. but come on, we have to grow up at some point. OR make $$$$ with your Mac and buy a side gaming PC, I personally would never want a PC again as my main computer.

The first time your on a Mac you start searching how to do things the hard way since that's what we're so used to on the PC. Then you start learning how to do things the easy way :) And you won't like the next time you're on the PC again (and usually when on the PC it means you have to fix some kind of PROBLEM) for other people :D Some say the Mac is expensive and just flashy, they don't know a *peep*. IMO it is worth it.

/end lovestory :D

I have a mac and 2 PC's. Graphics and media on the mac, windows apps and code on the windows boxes. i just like my macbook better

I'm thinking about building a hackintosh with a legally bought copy of OSX. I've been using linux for the last 2 years without any crashed or viruses, and I believe that linux has the best work flow, but what eats me up is that their aren't any really good video editing programs for linux-- Non of them working 100% out of the box.

Another option I'm thinking about is trying to run OSX as a vm in virtualbox.

I LOVE my macs, in fact we have 4 macs in my house, kids love them too. There are so many great windows software programs geared towards affiliate marketers so about a year ago I bought a Windows laptop on sale for $400 and I'm happy I did. Thanks to a lot of these Windows programs, in particular Article Marketing Robot, I've taken my online income from $300 a month to $1,200+ a month. I'm sure that's not a lot of money compared to what others are earning but I'm thrilled with the money.

I'm not a Windows 7 fan but am very happy I bought my Windows laptop, it was worth the expense. Oh and I didn't add windows to my MAC because I didn't want to taint the mac. :D

Time is money so I'd rather just have everything work straight away without any "work arounds" or using virtualization or emulators.

Windows works straight away. Being in the computer industry I find people who use Mac's are the kind of people who download every .exe from every website and end up getting a virus then blame it on the computer.

Your computer is only as smart as the person using it, and that's the honest truth!

I'll stick to my windows were all the software works straight out of the tin yes there are viruses but use a good antivirus and firewall and your safe and ever since I stopped pirating software I've not had a virus in years.

Here are my computer specifications: 16GB DDR3 RAM, AMD Phenom X6 Processor, 60 GB SSD, 4TB HDD (2TB x2), ATI Radeon HD 5770 X2 Crossfire and triple monitors.

Now if I was to get that on a MAC (Do macs even have triple monitors) it would cost me probs 100k, and that computer build above costs less than 1k.

I would probs use a Mac for a laptop for checking e-mails or what ever but I would never use it as my production computer for the above reasons, same goes for Linux I have many linux servers but I've tried using it as my desktop PC but you want for example Photoshop CS5 and it simply doesnt work even with Wine.

Edit: For the persons above saying Mac is for photoshop and stuff Uhm I find that Photoshop is MUCH faster on my Windows Machine, infact I've worked for photographers and they all switched to windows for the improvement on speed and the huge annual savings on Mac upgrades as windows was 1/10th price for triple the spec.

Mac Is Cra*.

No, that is what you do when you sit on the toilet. Awesome is what a Mac is and what you aren't. See the difference? ;)

With the exception of most affiliate marketing programs, most of what you can do can be done on the Mac with greater ease, flexibility, and design. The developer ecosystem on this platform are very dedicated and passionate about the OS and their programs. Apple has this obsession with perfection, it just so happens to run in the family (aka developers). Windows applications, on the other hand, tend to be rather bloated and unnecessarily complex for what they do. And while it may do the job, it's certainly not aiming to be do the best at it that can be. So, depending on what qualities you value, you'll find that the Mac is a great experience.

With regard to the users, you're certainly right about it resting on them to think "smart". However, I am very familiar with the Mac community and most of them are not fools by any means. They tend to be anywhere from designers, developers, video editors, coders, and others are just power users.

Fair enough, but I for one consider antivirus programs a waste of money, CPU, and HD space. I do think it is interesting to note that the pirating community of the Mac has had no problems with viruses. They don't even bother to have these "virus" checkers. I was surprised to see how much of a concern it is on this forum. For there to be no problem in the darkest places for Mac users, it's a testimony of its quality and community.

Now if I was to get that on a MAC (Do macs even have triple monitors) it would cost me probs 100k, and that computer build above costs less than 1k.

5-10k is more like it and it does support multiple monitors. However, it is unfair to compare a Mac to some PC that you built. This is like complaining about how much it costs to buy a home when you can build it yourself for a cheaper price. If you have the skills to build one, that's great.

It would've been more accurate to test this on a Mac with dual boot. Also, it depends on WHEN this claim was made. Is it recent? If not then it is possible that Photoshop was running through Rosetta at the time, which was a background emulator made to help run PowerPC applications on an Intel. This would obviously decrease the performance. Adobe finally caught up with Apple. They're slow for almost everything (just look at flash). Their program could be better if they put great designers into creating their GUI. I highly doubt it is MUCH faster right now.

Anyone with hackintosh experience? I refused to purchase overpriced apple hardware when I can build or have a pc running OSX for cheaper.

as a designer i have and will always love my Mac, but have found it useful to have a PC by my side too, for checking work in other web browsers / colour variations on my web work and for programs that are PC only.

BLAH BLAH BLAH MACS COST TOO MUCH BLAH BLAH BLAH MACS ARE TOO SLOW BLAH BLAH BLAH IM A TROLL AND IM JEALOUS OF MAC USERS

Me thinks this guy needs a temp. ban for trolling in a Mac thread. :)

Who goes to a "who has a Mac" thread and blah blah blah's about how macs cost $100k and how they're slower? (even though in reality they're really not...)

Trolls do.

I used to troll a lot when I was 14, but then I got real friends and grew up. :)
Not to mention, I am Microsoft A+ certified and used to make a living fixing peoples PC's. And then I switched to Mac. What does that tell you about windows? :O

Anyway, I've got a 13" MBP; it does everything I need (even video editing... It's pretty impressive for that!)

OS X is easily the best laptop OS... 10hr battery life FTW!
