How many Keywords to You Target?

When i'm starting a new Page/Project i usually have my main 2 - 3 keyword phrase that i have in the title and URL. (eg. ipod gel case) Then i have around 5-10 more keyword phrases that i also target. (eg. ipod protective case, cool ipod cases.....)

Is that too many? Should i just focus on 1 short keyword phrase for each Page?

The sweet spot is to use 6-12 keywords, preferably of about equal worth, and each low comp in nature. The very best one gets to be used as a EMD. That way with as few as 6 articles, or 6 sets of backlinks using the keyword, are all that's needed for effective optimization. The effect of the strong keywords together are additive in bringing traffic to the site.
 
The best results I got with 1 main keyword/page and 2 additional keywords with lower volume.
Make sure your main money-making keyword is one a page with at least 800 words with a reasonable density, in headline, URL, keywords, description.

Don't overoptimize your page and don't run after too many rabbits.
 
It really depends on the competition. For my lower competition niches(500-800 monthly searches) i will target around 12. For higher competition, you should be targeting less.
 
I just target 1 low competition keyword.
Usually the keywords that I target gives around 25-30 views a day if you are number 1.
 
Ok, so for high competition just vocus on 1 (maybe 2) main keyword(s). But for lower competition niches i can go up to as many as 10.

And for my Tier 1 backlinks, i'm guessing that the same goes there. When i write articles or in my keyword list in GSA SER only focus on the keywords that i used in my original article.
 
Its not bad. But if you could just see competition and then you keep something like this :

2-3 Main Competitive Keywords
2-3 Medium Competitive Keywords
2-3 Easy Long Tail Keywords....
 
A keyword with low monthly searches is NOT necessarily a low competition keyword. Take the niche term and do a phrase search in Google. If the number of results come out to over 100,000, it's not low SEO comp.
