How Many Keywords to Target (Per Article)

Just as the title states, how many keywords should we be targeting per article? Up until this point, I've typically targeted one keyword per article. I've optimized the article for that keyword and simple written naturally after that. Of course the article will pick up multiple keywords, but it's always been a crapshoot to me.

Should I be intentionally optimizing each article for a ton of long tail keywords?

Not a ton as that would lead into keyword stuffing but yes more than one for sure.
I won't use more than 10, just keep it simple and natural, sometimes you might end up with 3 in the article and sometimes with 12 perhaps.
 
Just use 3 to 4 keywords in the article to make it look like natural content , link to your innerpage and use some external links on the article .
 
I read somewhere Better to target 5-7 keywords per article And then scale it up for at least 100 articles. I don't know if this is true or working. Can someone confirm this?

I usually do 3-4 main ones. Then I include a handful of really low comp keywords that matches the article, just to get a little bit of extra keyword coverage.
 
idea is to make it look natural...thats the bottom line...should not look like keyword stuffing or forced!
 
The number of keywords in your article will actually have to do with the length of the article. I think for me as a rule, i place 1 main keyword in between (at least) 300 words...

This makes it like 4 - 5 keywords for a 1.5k words, not including the long tail keywords
 
You can use 3, 4, or even 10 target keywords on a single page. Just be sure they don't disrupt the flow and cohesiveness of the piece. As a rule of thumb, every single keyword must make sense to be on the same page as your main keyword.
 
Usually focus 1-2 main keyword along with 2-4 sub keywords. Helps me to make the article look more natural.
 
Include variations of a keyword only if they make sense naturally.
 
I guess my question has been answered...target 1-2 main keywords, then I use 3-4 variation in article.

I was just picking one keyword then writing completely naturally. I was picking up others but I wasn't intentional about it.

I think I'm going to go back and try to be a bit more intentional in my optimization.
 
Just target a couple. When you rank your article and check Google Search Console, you will see that there are actually 10-100+ keyword variations on the top ranks that are getting you traffic.
 
If I’m outsourcing I won’t event asked the writer to put in the keyword. But after I’ll add maybe two.
 
There are two major strategies when it comes to keywords.
The one that I recommend will assume that your content is of high quality. Make one keyword the main one and insert up to 5 minor KWs alongside it. That will ensure that the article remains optimized while the KWs don’t end up drowning your content. A steady stream of dedicated followers will win you the game over time.
The other one is what people tend to use when their content is merely a way of drawing people to the site, often to sell them a service or product. If this is the kind of content you’re going for, then you can go for 10 or so keywords. Just be careful, as potential visitors don’t like content that reads as if it was written by a robot. There’s a good chance that they will simply hit back on their browsers.
 
It depends on your budget, however, primarily targeting 5 keywords to start your business.
 
I usually target one main keyword that has lots of search volume and optimize the article to it. Along the way, I make sure to add Longtail and LSI keywords for SE visibility

For building links, it is better not to stick with the main kw, I choose random anchors to make it look natural
