How many hours can you code maximum?

Webdevelopment as a 8-5 job so yeah. Not all hours reallly productive. but atleast 4 hours straight

Frankly speaking, 2-3 hours a day. I am too good in copying codes lol. I am a full-time programmer and yet, I spend most of the time studying new technologies rather than intense coding, but I can code upto 10-12 hours in a day.

Yeah sometimes I don't have to write from scratch anymore, I'm good at copying codes again too. It really helps a lot.

I've pulled a lot of all nighters, so I guess 8 - 10 hours are achievable for me, with enough energy drinks.

@Thread, I guess 8-10 hrs is max. Take a 10 mins break every hour. Walk around, have some water. Wash your eyes and come back.

That's not very good man.. You should ideally take a break after coming out of the zone. Otherwise if you take a break during the zone then you are going to lose it and it will take more time again to get back to the zone. Most of the programmers who are in "the zone" are the most productive and make less mistakes. I'd suggest reading about that magical zone..

Well everyone has their own style of doing things, as usual :)

I find it most effective when I take a break every hour. It keeps my body less stressed, and helps me to think more. When I take a break, it does not mean that my brain is taking a break.

I constantly think about how I should achieve the next task (I am sure you know what I mean by task) and chalk out algo for that. Once I am back from the break, I can resume at no time..

1 -2 hours max on coding. I spend most of the time in design, architecture and grey areas of the requirement. Once it's finalized it's more of typing job as you already know what you're gonna implement.

I've coded all night a shit ton of times. And then sometimes right after I woke up and brushed my teeth, I would code some more until hunger kicked in.
But most times I take a few minute brakes and eat some snacks or check on some other shit.

Sometimes, especially recently, I can only do a couple of hours at a time. But if I am really motivated I can easily do 24+ hours.

Sure, I totally agree. I have been enjoying those moments when I'm in the zone. Basically one moment when you look at the clock you will notice like oh shit 2-3 hours has passed and you even didn't notice it, but you managed to create many brilliant things.

If You like what You do, then You can do it almost 24/7, if I need change code , i can sit for as long as needed. No matter what. ;) I don't count hours, i just do it. :)

Code 2-3 Hours Per Day but if I'm in mood for coding or too much involved than I do it continually for many hours.

I use to code in the past 3 to 4 hours per day as don't have much time to spend online. In these days I am doing only easy work rather than coding.

I have coded for like 23 hours at a stretch however that's not what i do everyday but yea, that's what is achievable for me if required (Yes, i didn't even eat). It was for an in-house project which was thrown completely at me as my partners didn't do sh*t! Generally, i'm cool with like 8-10 hours with a couple for short breaks in between but then again coding is somewhat my passion.

You are trying to say that programming (especially a long and hard project) is not stressful at all, for you?

I'm saying that it can be stressful if you want it to be - for example, if you overbook, yes, you're going to be stressed. It doesn't have to.
